Why Are My Fry Starting To Die?

I have nearly 1 month old fry in my fish tank. I have two 2 way breeding floating tanks in my 30 gallon fish tank. 1 breeding tank has about 25 guppie fry and my other one has about 12 platy fry. I have been keeping up with my daily water change and gravel cleanup. I change about 30% water every week and feed them hikari first bites 2-3 times a day. Today at least 3 fry have died. 1 platy fry and 2 guppie fry. I have no idea whats happening to them. I have the tank temperature about 85 degrees because I am trying to get rid of ich which is coming out succesfully and I added aquarium salt to my tank about 1 week ago. All of my adult fish are active and healthy and so are my fry but I don’t understand how 3 can die off in just 1 day after being alive for almost a month now. The only thing that I think might be killing them is a light brown smudge on the bottom of the breeder tank that look like it can be decomposed food and waste. Please help and can I put the guppie and platy fry together so I can clean one of the breeder tank? Thanks :)

What Does It Mean When My Black Skirt Tetra Lays On Its Side At The Bottom Of The Tank?

I got my black skirt tetra 2 weeks ago and have been doing weekly 25% water changes and adding nutrafin cycle, nutrafin aqua+ and nutrafin waste control as it says to on the bottles. I feed my fish twice daily small pinches of tropical fish flakes. The smallest fish of the three started swimming to the bottom of the tank, laying down, flopping onto it’s side, and staying there, still breathing. It will then get up after a while and swim around again and then do it again, looking like it’s dead. It is in a 10 gallon tank with 2 other black skirt tetras, with filter & heater, temperature is at about 78 degrees usually. What could this be caused by? I read overfeeding or poor water quality. My tank is at an ammonia level of .25 according to the test kit, but it is a new tank going through the nitrogen cycle so .25 isn’t all that bad. What else could this be cause by and how do I help her? I did about a 45% water change when she started doing it and added all the nutrafin stuff again. What else can I do? Please help, this is my first aquarium and any tips or ideas would be so appreciated as I don’t want her to die.

Cant Find Ottocinclus Algae Eater?

I just bought an otto for my aquarium. Once it was placed in the water it immediately went sucking away at algae in the tank. However it was briefly chased by a skirt tetra and now I can’t find it anywhere. I know it wasn’t eaten because I saw it get away(They are fast!). Any ideas on where it might be hiding? I don’t have much in my tank an it is driving me crazy trying to find it.

Legit/trippy Freshwater Tank Set Up (5-10 Gal)?

I recently inherited a 5 or 10 gallon tank (I’m not sure which, but I think it may be a 5) complete with all the fixins for a freshwater tank.
My parents have kept various fish in their aquariums over the years, but I want a really legit setup.
I was thinking the glo danios, because they would be awesome on the rare occasion I decide to roll, trip, or shroom. However, I would like input from others on species of fish and tank decor.
I realize the tank is rather small, and I can get a 20 gallon tank for cheap, so I’m not opposed to larger fish, like oscars. The problem with oscars is they can’t really be kept with many other fish.
Right now I’m thinking glo danios with either guppies or a dwarf pleco or cory cat.
What I really need to know is how many fish I can can have in a 5 or 10 gallon vs a 20 gallon, and of course, design ideas.
Thanks in advance and please spare me the “drugs are bad” spiel.
Peace

Do Black Lights Benefit My Salt Water Aquarium?

I have a 75 gallon Salt water aquarium. The aquarium has fish and corals of all sizes. I have 4 power compact bulbs overhead at 65 watts each. I read a book that said black lights are beneficial to corals and also makes them stand out. I was wondering if this is true. I wouldnt not have the blacklight on all the time. Just when i wanted to see them under a black light. I might leave it on for a little bit if it benefits the fish. I will keep my Power Compact bulbs no matter what. I just have an extra light hood that would fit some blacklights and thought it might be cool to add to make colors pop. Any suggestions?

Considering A Rat For A Pet?

What? Preposterous! That is what I used to think about the idea of having a pet rat. I’m actually really considering having a little ratty-poo for a companion! I’ve heard they are smart, clean and friendly :)
Also, I love small animals. I have a betta fish name Victor and I just bought him a new 2-gallon aquarium! He loves it.
Anyways, please can you give me all the reasons why I should want to have a pet rat for a companion? Thanks!
