I got a fish tank with fish from a friend who is moving and didn’t want them anymore. The problem is they let the tank get pretty nasty. There are 4 fish and and algae eater in there, but there is tons of poop in the pebbles, or gravel on the bottom. We have a few fake plants in there, and the tank has a filter, heater, and light. How do I go about cleaning it, and getting the poop out without too much stress on the fishies? Thanks!
Okay i just got a 55 gallon fish tank, and i plan to just put some guppies in it but first i wanted to decide on a easy filter system/ cleaning system for i could then set up the tank, what would you suggest would be the best idea? what should i use? any other tips or advice you could give me? I’d greatly appreciate any ideas about this because i’d like to get this set up before Sunday as a Surprise for my brother! Thank you all in advance!
I have a plecto who is huge now so he is going to find a new home via our locally owned and reputable pet store. His mouth literally has gotten too large to eat the film of algae on some of my faux coral decorations. What’s a good algae eater plan from here on out? I have heard Ottos are good and certain types of shrimp but I hate shrimp. Snails? Is there a cool type of snail? Whatever the answer I’d like it to be multidimensional like Otto and snail. Also, algae eater needs to max out at least 2 to 3 inches, no more than 4. Thanks!
ok I had a tank of tetras and mollies that had spots of ick. I treated by doing a water change… removing the carbon part of the filter as recommended… raising the temp a few degrees and adding 1 tbsp of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water.
the next day, the ick spots were going. But I thought I should leave well enough alone for a bit to make sure the infection is killed.
day 2 and the ick is still gone, everyone seems to be doing well. no one got stressed from the addition of salt… so it seems to be ok.
Should I do a water change and remove some of the salt? Do I do a water change and replace some of the salt removed? Should I re-add the carbon to the filter? Should I just leave well enough alone for a few more days THEN do a water change and remove some of the salt?
I did disolve the salt before I added it. As I was doing the water change, it was disolving in the replacement water.
i’m a total novice,, i bought a 50gal aquarium last week. there are 4 parrots and 4 smaller fish living in it since wednesday. i have loads of air pumped in and a filter on 24 hrs a day, but the tank is starting to stink already and the water is starting to cloud…. is this normal and just needs very regular cleaning, or might i be doing something wrong?????
Also my fish seem to freak out when i turn their light on,, do parrots prefer the shade??
my fish are sick and they have little white dots all over them i was reading it was called “ich”. but its only on 2 of them but they are all acting sick. i cant get medication for them for like 4 days. is there any thing i can do. and will they live? they kinda just rest on the bottom of the tank then roll over, also there back fin is not up like usual… please help
