What Kind Of Light Should I Use For My Aquarium?

I have a 35g hexagonal tank that is about two feet deep. I’m setting the tank up and would like to grow dwarf hair grass as a lawn on the bottom of the tank. I already have the substrate and CO2 ready, now I just need to find a quality light to make these babies spread like wildfire. So, any ideas on the strength and type of light I should use to help them grow?

Engineering For The Aquarium Filter Question.?

I understand how an aquarium foam filter works in principal as far as biological and mechanical filtering is concerned. My issues involve volumes – such as the volume of water flowing, the volume of air needed to move the water, and the volume of bacteria on the filter material.
My question is how are these foam filters rated?
Is it volume of foam?
Is it the tube size where the air and water flows?
Why is a 3.5 inch cubed filter rated for 10 gallons, but a 7 inch cubed is rated for 30 gallons?
It is twice the volume – not 3 times so that makes no sense to me.
The air “lift” tube is the same on both.
Is there a spreadsheet or formula one can use to compute the water movement through such a tube?
How would you measure the weak air pressure from an aquarium pump?
This leads into other questions about these filters such as…
Why not a 100 inches cubed with a 120 gallon per hour power head for a 30 gallon aquarium?
Other than the displacement in the tank, would it not be a better match for the load?
If the flow rate is so low, why is that acceptable when we would want higher flow rates in a canister or hob filter? The suggested rates for those filters are at least 4 times the tank volume per hour. Hence a 30 gallon aquarium needs a 120 gph flow rate.
Is there any studies that say 7 inches cubed is the perfect size for up to a 30 gallon tank?
If so where can I find them?
How do I know that enough water flows through the sponge?
Please no novice answers.I feel pretty well assured I understand nitrogen fixing bacteria in principal.
I do not know the area of bacteria compared to the bio-load of a fish tank.
Do not be afraid to send me engineering formulas. Those are most likely the answers that will serve me best.
Per inch which gives the greatest filter area – a sponge filter or a ceramic filter of the some volume?
I recognize the greatest filter volume for a given area many well be the fluid sand filter, but it has an appearance issue.

No Water Change For A Year?

I’ve seen this stuff in my local pet store that advertises that if you put it in a 5-55 gallon aquarium, you won’t have to change your water for a year. Has anyone actually tried it before? Even if you haven’t, you can still comment and say whether or not you’d try it.
Now, I have three (I refer to them as “toddlers”) fantails in a 56 gallon aquarium, and am not getting anymore. So I was thinking if I were to use this stuff I’d just leave my aquarium at 55 gallons and I’d be good. I know goldfish are dirty fish, and my tank size is at the upper limit, but my tank is understocked, so I think if this stuff really works it would work if I don’t go over 55 gallons (although it makes the filter a bit noisier, lol. Your opinions are appreciated, and your answers from experience are even more appreciated!

What Do I Need To Set Up A 180 Gallon Aquarium For Freshwater Fish?

I have come across this large aquarium and am considering purchasing. I have experience keeping freshwater tanks below 75 gallons but would like to know specifics for a tank of this size.
What parts would I need? And if you know, what is the estimate cost of each addition?
I would want to have a very effective filtration system. What is the best option?
How to heat a tank of this size?
The tank is only a tank with no top or any extras. It is around 6 feet long and maybe 2 feet tall.
Thank you for your time!
