I really like animals and having pets. So far I have had two hamsters, three gerbils and a guinea pig and I found them very playful and fun to own. However, after all this time owning rodents, I have decided on owning something else and I’m wondering what to buy. I’ve done some of those online quizzes but I found them stupid (how can you tell what pet you should get by your favourite colour?). These are my requirements:
Pet should live in a cage/aquarium/vivarium/terrarium rather than a dog or cat that just runs wild.
Pet should be relatively cheap to maintain and satisfy.
Pet should be relatively cheap to buy (animal should cost less than £30).
Pet should enjoy being handled.
Preferably not a bird because I hate seeing birds in cages.
Sorry about the long question. Thanks

I’m trying to decide on whether to get one syrian hamster or like 2-3 hermit crabs. I have a 10 gallon aquarium. I’ve had a hamster before and i loved it, but i was just wondering if maybe i should try hermit crabs. I already have 2 gerbils to take care of.
So if anybody has ever had hermit crabs can you tell me a little about them and maybe any special care requirements? Do they pinch you or bite you or anything? How exactly do you maintain the correct temperature and humidity level?
Also if you have had both a hamster AND hermit crabs then tell me which one you liked better and why.
I don’t really need care info on hamsters.
Thanks!

My husband has a 15 yr old daughter w/ his ex & he pays child support & he also helps her w/ money for her other kids that aren’t even his b/c she’s always crying poor & she doesn’t work. He’s a really good guy & he’s been taking on more clients lately to give her more money.
My husband & his ex went to high school w/ another couple & they’re all still friends. All of us are in our late 30′s. The wife of that couple is catty & devious. She was rude the 1st time I met her & asked how old I was but her face was like she was smelling poo. I’m the same age as her btw I just look younger. The 2nd time I walked in & said hi & she responded by saying “I thought you were a blonde” with a smirk. I said no & she said “hmm must have been someone else then”. Bittttttttch. Her teenage son comes here for tattoos. My husband is a tattoo artist & they’re in the middle of completing a large piece on him. Her & her husband always tag along & want to BBQ at my house. AND she takes over my kitchen like she lives here & asks me to move out of her way. I can’t stand her.
Long story short she started being nice to me, asking about our wedding plans, asking how much we paid for our couches, how much was my ring, how much my husband is renting his deceased mother’s house for. As it turns out she was using me to get info for my husband’s ex. Now my husband is getting texts from his ex w/ all sorts of wrong information. One text said “ur a f-in piece of sh*t loser, ur paying for a wedding, ur renting that house for $$$$, u refurnished your apt & ur daughter is living off scraps”. NOT true. Our wedding was just me, my husband & 2 friends on the beach in Maui which was also our honeymoon, he does rent his mom’s house but he also pays the mortgage, and almost everything in our apartment belonged to me from before I met him so yes the place looks completely different now b/c it’s all MY stuff. It’s not a bachelor pad anymore. Excuse me for having nice things. She also goes into my bedroom & I have to ask her to please use the guest bathroom instead. She’s just very bold & always snooping.
What can I say to her the next time she asks me something point blank? Like “nice aquarium, how much did you pay for it”? Or “how much did your honeymoon cost”? Or “you always look so nice, it must cost you a lot to maintain your hair & nails” Back handed compliment. How am I supposed to respond to questions like that right in my face? I can’t say none of your business b/c it’ll start a fight. And what do I say when she asks “so how much money do you make per year”? I mean who is that intrusive? WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO SAY TO THIS WOMAN? Btw her son & her husband are WONDERFUL people & very good friends to my husband. I’m normally very strong & pretty confrontational but I know if I go off it will be bad.

I am currently converting my 20g long planted tank into a saltwater aquarium. I am running a 2 x 31 watt t5 bulbs. One is 10,000k and the other is a Actinic. Would this be sufficient lighting to maintain sps corals since a 20 long is more shallow than a 20 tall? or would I have to upgrade my lighting fixture?

I recently put into my 55 gal. freshwater aquarium 4 amazon sword plants and 4 ruffled sword plants. They did their usual die off-than regrow thing, except all of the plants only partially grew back, maybe 3 inches, until they stopped growing and even started to die! My ph is 7.0, I have no ammonia, I keep my temperature at 78 degrees, and I have very high wattage. Also, I have a green cabomba plant, java weed, and micro swords who are doing just fine. Thanks for helping.
P.S.-If you want to see pics of my aquarium search IDAQ in Flickr.com

Well we found this toad that’s a little smaller then the palm of an average size hand outside last night, put him in the juniper bushes in the front of the yard and went to bed. Then found him floating around our pool this morning and decided to put him inside an aquarium. Is it wise to keep it? We have aquarium rocks in there now with some larger rocks from our back yard and a dish of water available to him. We live in an area where I doubt these animals are native to so I’m assuming he might have been someones pet. We’d like to keep him but don’t want to if it’s not the best idea.
Also, how easy are they to maintain?

i’m no beginner when it comes to owning fish. i understand the basics
-the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate cycle
-hardness and ph control
-proper temp.
but i was wondering if there were certain plants/algae that fish like to eat, or adding snails or anything of that sort for food and to help maintain tank cleanliness. i’d like to have a tank where if i couldn’t feed my fish for a day or two, not that i would purposely do it, they would still be able to eat plants or anything else in the tank…
my setup
-10 gal tank
- 1 betta
- 3 corydoras
- 2 pleckos
- 3 tetra
i was also thinking about getting a small lobster or a crayfish.
any opinons on that as well?
and if you’re thinking my tank is over stocked, i purchased a product (the name escapes me at the moment) that increases your biological capacity. i normally test the water and have not had any problems with this amount of fish… yet…
@fred,
it was something like this.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002LL8LPM/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1?ie=UTF8&cloe_id=323d0727-1744-4437-a807-10d6861fa1ed&attrMsgId=LPWidget-A2&pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B0002567JQ&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1YDAYMANHZCP6HE349PC,
haha only cost two bucks!
it just supports benificial bacteria growth… so the tank can keep up with the cycle…
hope you kept your recipt for that $15 bottle of bs pal.
@fred,
1 panda cory
1 albino cory
the last i’m not sure about, it’s green greyish with yellowish spots.
(can you identify it)
also why would it matter?
@ged123wa…
it’s not a chemical product, it’s more like a stone with pores…
