Canister filter leak?

I have a canister filter for my saltwater aquarium and once I changed my media I put it back together and a LEAK!!
I am wondering if anyone might have some ideas so It will not leak but I can still open it to change the filter. I am thinking about lacing it up thick with some plumber tape and see what happens. Let me know.
Wow! 4 out of 4 say o-ring. I guess most likely it is the o-ring. I just put the plumber tape on and so far no leaks. I saw where one of you guys said that this could clog the impeller which is true should it come loose. The o-ring is where at exactly?

have you checked the o-ring? it might have slipped out of its seat. if the leak is between the lid and the canister the problem is with the o-ring(rubber seal)

The odds are almost 100% that you installed the O-ring wrong. Take this apart again and make sure the O-ring is installed properly. If it’s cracking or has a pinch or drying get a new one though just install this again and you should be fine. Everyone with a canister filter doesn’t this eventually. Be careful putting it back together because sometimes you bump and rotate the O-ring, at least I do.

The o-ring could be pinched, or broken/cracked. look into that option first. Plumbers tape might only clog the filter, or damage the impellers if it gets sucked in.

If your leak is elsewhere, you might have split the line while moving it. replace the hosing.

um what exactly is wrong what make and model is it? sometimes it might be a defective design and sometimes its just that an O ring needs replacing. Or did u just crack the casing?
