not full of water
I have a turtle and a fish that live in a 10 gallon tank with no problem.
yeah you only have to feed it a toad like once a month, and i only have mine in a 1.5 gal tank.
A 10 gallon tank would be appropriate for a BABY slider… but once they are grown they will need something larger (I would say 30g at minimum). Turtles are fairly easy to care for… but I would say a fish would be easier. The turtles require more expensive accessories for their tank (docks, plants, etc) than a goldfish would for sure. Good luck!
Well, you can put ONE turtle in a ten gallon tank. The tank would have to be bigger if you decided to get two. Honestly, you would have to get it food, something to climb on like wood and rocks, sometimes they eat minows, and you would probably are looking at a good 30-40 bucks maybe. You should really look into getting a book and researching turtles before you get one. Turtles are easy to care for, but just remember that you will have to clean the tank once a week which can be time consuming.
Maybe try a beta fish?
As long as its not all water. Clean, Clean, Clean! Turtles get smelly EXTREMELY fast! Clean! Clean!
Turtles can get quite large and also no 10 gallons wont cut it….SORRY!!!
Turtles do like to live with each other.
PETCO has a large tank with EVERYTHING YOU NEED except the turtles on sale right now for 129.99$
Yes they are easy to care for…. they are like really big fish!
NO you can’t. You can’t heat one end with a basking light and keep the other end cool (this is called a heat gradient). You’ll end up overheating the whole thing. A good rule of thumb is 10 gallons (tank size, not water amount) per inch of shell. Since adult females can grow up to 12 inches, you’re going to end up needing at least a 100 gallon tank. Water heaters, filters, UVB lighting, and lots of water changes are critical. Please see this site for complete info:

you can put a baby slider in a 10 gal tank but they get pretty big. I have two sliders in a 40 gal tank and they love it. They prefer to be with other turtles. I’ve had sliders for years and i’ve noticed that the one’s that didn’t have a friend died quicker then the one’s that had other turtles in the tank with them. They lived for years. I have a adult slider and a baby slider in the same tank and they love the company. There pretty easy to take care of. The cost of them really depends on where you get them from. Mine where both really cheap. I’ve never bought slider’s from a pet store though. My turtle love water. I have their tank about half way full with water and then i have rocks and plants and floater for them to climb on and get out of the water when they want to. But my sliders love water so much that they sleep in it. It gets kind of cold so i have a heating lamp for them. They love to seat under it and sun bathe. It’s really cute the way they hold their legs out under it. I feed my turtle dry food and fish. That way they have a good diet. As for a filter I’d say buy one that is for the right size tank your going to get or your going to need to change the water a lot more. Best of luck =3
oh yeah another thing. What I’ve learned is that depending on the tank size your slider won’t grow much. If you keep a small slider in a small tank it will always be small unless you move it to a larger tank. I hope that helps.
yes
You need to do research. Red-eared sliders get huge, as do goldfish. Either way you go- you’re going to need a much larger tank than a 10 gallon. NO pet store will sell you a gold-fish or turtle if they know it’s going in a 10 gallon.
No, it’s far too small to the extent of being cruel
That goes for either a goldfish or a turtle
No they require heated water, a land are, basking and uv lights
A 10 gallon filter in a much larger tank is no use.
If you want to be cruel to a goldfish at least do it to a single fancy goldfish which will have a few years before you kill it

NO on the 10 gallons…a 55 to start!
Aquatic are a life long commitment.
I wish you luck. I have been a mom to Two 36 yr old females for 36 long yrs.( plus an 8,5 and 2 yr old males for the last 7 yrs now)
Remember 10 gallons for every inch of turtle.
I have used kiddy pools and plastic pond liners from most nurseries and now a 150 gal pond.
They are the coolest. Not cuddly pets at all.
Sliders, cooters , painted, map, yellow bellied all are basically the same and require the same basic care.
They NEED calcium and protein they get it from the fish meat and the fish bones. Drop 20 or so feeder guppies, goldfish or minnows in the tank and watch them disappear in a few days! The more they eat the healthier the turtle. When I got these two 36 yrs ago all we had in back then were goldfish to feed so after 36 yrs and still going strong. They can eat goldfish!
This way when they swim for their dinner they get exercise also!
TOSS in a bird cuttle bone in the water for calcium that will promote better shell growth, it will dissolve real slow and if they eat it that’s fine!!
They can have garden worms, meal worms, snails, crickets, flies, crayfish small frogs, slugs, tadpoles dragon flies and anything that moves, but only as a treat.
They need leafy greens Romaine, Butter lettuce. (Iceberg and cabbage are bad for them, any other leafy greens will do) for vitamin A that they need at least 3 to 4 times a week.
They love grapes and strawberries and squash.
.**Swollen cloudy eyes which means lacking in Vitamin A. Which we all need for good eyes. Google ‘vegetables with Vitamin A.
Did you know that they need to bask under a reptile light UVA/UVB for up to 8 hrs a day for the vitamin D that they need to grow. So that means getting a turtle dock also.
Leave the heater on 75 to 78 degrees always.
These turtles in captivity do not hibernate their eating may slow down some but they will not hibernate.
They will bite very very hard.
Under 4″ they carry a disease called ‘salmonella’. So you must wash after every handling. These guys can become cannibalistic and will kill the smallest turtle if there is not enough room and food. Two turtles should have a 55 gallon tank to start. TO START ! Cause if they live you’ll need 100 gallons soon.
And my pictures don’t lie. All ages and all sizes get along as long as their is allot for swim room and plenty to eat!
These guys in my pond get 400 plus goldfish a month. Leafy greens and fruits 4 times a week and plus electricity plus I also feed dried cubed blood worms or tubiflex worms at least 5 times a week. For one turtle its still going to cost ya. The setup alone tank, Big tank, heater, GOOD filter, UVA/UVB rep light, basking dock. Feeders, greens, fruits, dried turtle food. and electricity? YIKES that’s a lot of $$$$$$.
Their water needs to be clean otherwise they get sick easily from dirty water cause they poop allot. You need a good filter system!
Total Body length: 5-8″ average for males, up to 12 inches max for females. Life span: 15-25+ years
Males have the longer front nails and are used in mating. And are considered mature at about 5 yrs old. You can’t start sexing till about 3” across.
Gravel larger than they can swallow.
They sleep at the bottom of rivers, streams. lakes or ponds or your tank to avoid predators like coyotes, foxes, owls, hawks, possums, raccoons and even some wide mouth bass and us humans.
You probably already know that they get sick easily, shell rot, respiratory sickness, lopsided swimming, coughing, blowing bubbles from their nose. Fungus white cotton patches on their skin?

.
I have a small asian box turtle, and id recommend to get that instead. Mineris only about as big as a ttennisball, well maybe a little bigger, and its full grown. They will not bite you no matter what, and will not keep eatingtill they die like other types. And you can put them in a 10 galon tank, just remember no maqtter what kind of turtle, get a basking light for them so they get enough vitamin d!
