Not a project for a beginner fish keeper. It will probably suck up several thousand dollars setting it up properly, and require a lot of very exact care to keep them alive. It's not that it cant be done, it's just not a beginner thing. Steer your son toward some interesting freshwater tropical fish, or something like a Yabby ( freshwater crayfish). Much cheaper and easier to care for.
