no they cant, they would go into shock. most sales-people will say any to get a sale, you cant always listen to them
Actually yes they can be acclimated to the mid to low 60′s which is considered cold water.
Now of course if the fish is being kept in tropical temps now and you throw him/her into a cold tank it will go into shock and die. If you acclimate them properly though you will be just fine. They can be just fine in lower temps without a heater.
SO yes I just said it, I agreed with your pet shop employee lol. Mark the day on your calender, that’s a first I think.
Don’t believe me ? Google it
If fact here’s some links, read and learn something.

Sure.. they could.. just like you COULD go outside in the snow without a jacket.
Do you want to? No? Okay.
I assume you mean a tank with no heater….and yes…they can live in a tank w/o a heater as long as the temperature is not in the low 60′s(f). I have several livebearers in a 30 gallon tank with no heater. They thrive and are always reproducing.
yes you can i got some in my tank and they are doing fine ask you fish shop to help you out on what one you can get
hope this helps
NO! platys are warm freshwater fish.they will die in coldwater.
