Can I use this peat moss for my aquarium?

I bought peat moss for my too alkaline aquarium (the hex tank with removed crushed coral)
Its from the “black gold” brand, is it okay? Black gold is the garden brand peat…..so will it have fertilizers?

I bought it at Longs Drug Store (in Hawaii), which is like walgreens in the mainland…
And if it’s usable, what do i do, boil it (for how long) or just rinse it out well and drop it in a filter bag?
I’M NOT USING THE PEAT AS A FERTILIZER
its to lower the pH of the water

My first thought is no. You don’t know what kind of chemicals are used in it.
You can, but it will stain the water a “tea” colored in the aquarium and will lower the hardness of the water. If you’re looking to stimulate black water habitats this will help. The cons to this is that it is not an ideal water softener, because it’s capabilities are limited and stained water can make your tank look dirty and it may foul the water and make vacuuming difficult. If you’re looking to aid in your plant development, I would advise you not to, because it can be more of a problem than a solution. Instead of adding peat to your aquarium, get some aquatic pelleted or Job’s Stick plant food and add to your gravel. How much light does the tank have? Is it sufficient for the plants you’re having problems with?
