Simply… no.
That is if you are starting a new tank off from scratch. You must first cycle your tank and allow enough of the beneficial bacteria to grow. These bacteria help break down waste in the tank and help keep things stable.
However if you already have a tank established and are just moving into a bigger tank you MAY (it really depends on a few factors) be able to. What I was able to do successfully was… use the old carbon filter along with the biological filter from the old tank in the new one. I also kept around 90% of the water along with all of the plants, decorations and gravel from the old tank and moved them into the new tank. Because the difference in tank size wasn’t that great it was similar to doing less than a 25-33% water change.
I dont see why not as lon as the tap water is conditioned i mean i put fish in myn right away and they seem find (you do know tiger barbs are verry agressive right?)
i cycled my tank with tiger barbs.
once again make sure that your water has been conditioned with something that has taken out the chlorine or has just been sitting there for at lest 3 days.
if you add these fish you got to check the chemicals in the tank everyday till the tank has cycled and doo water changes if when the ammonia and nitrites get to bad levels or the fish will get sick and die.
i noticed that when i cycled my aquarium with barbs the first 5 weeks where really high maintenance with water changes and constant testing but after the cycling was over i was a pro at this and was a big relief because now i hardly ever test. i still do wate changes every week with my fully planted 56 gallon freshwater aquarium almost 2 years later.
Depends, probably not, since you have to cycle your aquarium. But if you do not care about your tiger barbs and if they are cheap to you, you can through them in to cycle the water faster for other fish. It all depends on how you look at it.
You can..but it would be much better/safer/healthier if you’ve had the tank set up for quite some time beforehand in preparation for the fish..like a month (I know that sounds ridiculous, but trust me…). I strongly suggest you visit this website: http://www.firsttankguide.net/cycle.php because it’s really helpful and it will give you a lot of info you will need. You sound new to fish keeping, so I highly suggest it. I wish someone had given me the website before I had my first batch of fish or at least had done my research beforehand…I had to learn the hard way when all my fish were getting sick and dying, that was when I started doing research…and that’s when I realized what I’ve been doing wrong. but it was pretty much too late. =(
Hope you take my advice and good luck to you! (I’ve actually been playing with the idea of getting tiger and cherry barbs! — they’re so cute! ^-^)
