Yup. Just do it slowly, like don’t take all the gravel out at once.. add half the sand, then the next day add the other half.

Clearly the person above is looking for quick points and doesn’t get what you’re asking.

Of course you can add live rock and sand to your puffer tank but as mentioned, do it slowly or else you may get Ammonia spikes which are fatal to fish.

Also. enquire about the rock before purchasing it as some shops use medicines and such in the tanks they sell live rock in and different methods of curing can also be fatal to fish so make sure you see it before you buy it and know what you’re looking for

cured live rock no. cuz all the bacteria and other organizms will die from shock. it will create a deadly ammonia spike that will kill ur puffer. cured live rock is cycled in a marine tank where the SG is at 1.022 or 1.024. ur tank assuming that its brackish (i hope) will be at 1.008-1.012max. this will be devasting to the live rock and kill it as i already stated. live sand however is safe as long as its for freshwater and it does not have any ph buffers in it. i would slowly add it and mix it in with the substrate u already have.

If I recall green spotted Puffers are, as was mentioned, a brackish water fish, which if I also recall needs a salinity of .0018 or so. Live Rock is broken pieces of reef or coral and is thus harvested from Saltwater with a specific gravity of .0023 and up. By using liver rock, weather cured or uncured, it will probably not support much life and will become a massive nitrate issue. you would do better to just purchase some Resin or other type of Aquarium safe rock and use that. For your bio filtering in a Fresh/Brackish there are the bio-wheel, bio-balls,ceramic rings, ect.. Live sand depends on your interpretation. Do you mean sand that is populated with micro and macro fauna and bacteria from a reef? Again, the same will occur as with the live rock. If you mean Agra-Alive’s type of “live” sand, than you will be just fine. It is nothing more than anaerobic bacteria.
