Can anyone logically tell me if my fish is blind?

Last night my fish started swimming in circles around his bowl ridiculously fast. Then he began to swim a little off balance, was hanging out around the bottom of the bowl and tilting sideways.
Recently we had given him a new medicine for the poor thing’s fungal sickness. I was weary of this medication because it had blue dye in it. This is the only thing that has changed in his little life that I believe could have affected him. We immediately changed the water and gave him a piece of food as his “changing water treat.” He did not eat it, didn’t even acknowledge it. We put in a few more pieces, but still no reaction. Now he is not cutely following my finger as usual and is hiding out in his castle. Any ideas?

Is it the brink of death or fishie blindness? :-[

oh man, i dont know, this is a tough one…if i knew how to tell if a fish was blind i wuld tell you, i dont know sweetie, I wish you the best of luck though, I know how precious a simle little fish can be.

I had a goldfish who had a fungus problem and I ought medicine after medicine (we wont hi at the fair and he actually LASTED over a year!) we are attatched to the goldfish and yet he wasnt responding to the medicine, and he died. It broke our hearts…that was the last fish I’ve owned ever since then. So i feel your fear.

    Good luck honey!

I dont think he is dying and i really dont believe he is blind, what i do think is that if his eyes are cloudly its because he is sick by adding a lot of medication you cause your fish to be stress.

i would suggest changing the water again 50 percent dont forget to add water conditioner

then change it again tomorrow 25% this time

i had i jack dempsey that went through this it lasted about three of the longest days?
it nearly mad me sad that i would lose my JD
but hes a fighter and now is back to normal beaten up his tankmatess and claim his throne…..

trust me do not add a lot of medications only a little bit when you do a water change

Also Check your water for PH,amonia, nitrate, nitrite, and hardness

    good luck hope hes ok

    Hi Macey,
a couple months ago I was treating my tank for ICH it also turned the water blue. My blind cave fish was swirling and swimming confused, really bumping into things etc… I thought at first it was because I raised the temps, so I kept the temps down, but everytime I added the meds this would happen. I don’t know if other people have experienced this, but he almost acted dizzy. He is normally very agile and knows every inch and corner of the tank and can manipulate his way around with no problem. He also lost a bit of appetite at that time. Of course he would never follow my finger because he naturally can’t see, but he would usually respond to vibrations or my voice. I don’t think your fish is blind, but may be affected by the meds. Will be interesting to see what more experienced people have to say about this. BTW he recovered fully. :-) Good luck!
