Betta companions and other betta setup help?

I’ve finally gone through all the right steps and gotten a good 10 gallon tank with a filter and heater. So now I wanna buy my fishy ^^ But I have a few Qs first that I need to be answered.
1.Is it ok if I buy a few other fish with my betta too? I know that bettas aren’t very social but are there any fishies that they might enjoy or ignore completely, or other fishes that might make their living conditions better? I was thinking of buying a couple of little minnows ( can’t remember the exact name red something :/) and a few tetras
2. how many fishes can a betta take and also if I get other fishes how would I feed them?
3.Bettas are pigs so I’m afraid that they’ll eat all of the food and get bloated how do I prevent this?
4. What’s the perfect temperature for their tank? Is there A (not 78-82 like that) degree that they like best?
5.If I want to buy other fishes for my betta should I wait a few days before doing so, or just buy them put the betta in first for a while then put the fishies in soon after?
Oh yeah slightly different but let’s have a vote for best betta color, red, blue (say the shade, I can’t remember any of them anymore -_-), that pale skin one cellophane, or cambodian. I think those are the only common colors at the pet store and I’m not in the mood to go looking for anothers so yeah…
Amphibians and reptiles aren’t my thing, also I’m pretty sure a turtle could be pretty damaging to a betta :( and frogs need land
Thnx you guys keep the info rolling in, I did think rosy reds were probably sacrificial fishies they’re so cheap XD and yeah I’m just buying a normal male betta so maybe at most 6 tetras?

Rosy reds are cheap sacraficial fish and a perfect starter for your aquarium. The will add benificial bacteria. You can certianly add a beta to a school of reds but please remember 1 inch of fish per gallon of aquarium, so no more than 10 inches of fish. But the good news is a beta wont mess with the reds and can adapt to most types of water. A beta is generally a pretty good tank mate to most fish with the exception of other betas both male and female, and any other fish that look like him for example, fancy male guppys have a long beautiful tail that the beta may eat off. As for the temp, I would set it at 78. If they get ich you may need to dial the temp up to 82. Good luck! Oh yeah, with the reds your beta wont have the opportunity to hog the food.

first off, great job actually buying a tank for your betta!

    1. yes a lot of fish can go with bettas. If you get a male betta your selection is smaller. i wouldn’t get rosy red minnows. I had 3 with a male betta in a 5 gallon and he ate one of them! so here are some options

1 male betta and a small school of neon tetras
    or
1 male betta and 2-3 cory catfish (more if you get pgymy cories)
    or
1 male betta and ghost shrimp or 2 african dwarf frogs
    or
1 male betta and a small school of rasboras

if you get a female betta you could get almost any fish that would be fine for a 10 gallon tank. no plecos! or fish that get over 2 inches

    2. i would feed the other fish normal tropical flakes, but give the betta, “betta bits” they are small pellets. you can get both foods at your local pet store

    3. as long as you feed your betta 3-4 pellets once or twice a day he won’t get bloated, just don’t overfeed

    4. about 78 degrees is good it can range 74-78

    5. if you put the male betta in first he will be territorial. i would put the other fish in first, wait a few days then add your betta

hope this helps! good luck with your new fish :)
