What is the top/best brand?
Power filter-list them please.
Canister filter-list them also please….
Power filter or Canisterfilter? why?
Any help would be helpful.. Thanks

the HOT (Hang On Tank) filters, I like Aquaclear or Penguin Emperors.
Canisters I really like the Rena Filstar and I’ve heard great things about the Fluval. I had a Magnum canister filter, but I hated that thing.
Make sure you have a minimum of 320gph filtration rate. Dependingon what type of fish you are puttin int here you may want to go as high as 800gph. No such thing as over filtering! Just watch the current and utilize multiple filters.
For fresh water tanks:
Power filters are usually the way to go I had two emperor 400′s on my 75 gallon and the water was always crystal clear. Just be sure to keep the water topped off or they get pretty loud.
You’ll want something with a biowheel. The bacteria that grows on them is very beneficial and aids greatly in breaking down ammonia.
I was an aquarium maintenance tech for 4 years, I serviced freshwater, saltwater, reef aquariums, and believe me when I say, I absolutely hate canister filters. Avoid them at all costs, they are almost guaranteed to leak. They don’t have any advantages over a power filter using carbon and purigen (seachem product).
Edit: I assumed you were going freshwater. If this is a salt water tank then you’ll need to go with a sump and a protein skimmer. There’s really no other way. Refugiums help, but can’t carry a heavily stocked tank.
I’ll throw a spanner in the works and say steer clear of Fluval. I’m British and we have a range called the Aqua One F Series.
Fluval internal filters tend to be cheap and unreliable (my Fluval 4, maintaining a large tropical tank repeatedly breaks down)
Not sure about the American market, the Aquarium trade in the US seems to be more advanced than ours.
I like the aquaclear’s. I run 2 of these on my 90 gallon for 1000 gallons per hour. I like these because the filter media compared to other HOB’s is far better. You also have so many different options as far as media goes. Depending on how heavely you are stocked I would go with either 1 aquaclear 110 or if your stocking is on the heavy side either 2 110′s or a 110 and the next size smaller.
