Are porcelain ornaments safe for my tank?
by Aquaboy on Monday, February 22nd, 2010 | 2 Comments
I want to add some ornaments to my fish tank and saw some really cool ones that I liked. The only thing is that they are painted porcelain and I am not sure if they are aquarium safe. Does anyone know it painted porcelain is safe for freshwater tanks?

Sorry, but you can’t describe anything painted as safe. It might take awhile but paint dissolves. Not worth the risk.
I found some Fen Shui symbols inside glass that work for me and I was given a glass paper weight that had been in a tank for years.
Really we should only use ornaments that are sold for fish tank use, but the temptation is there – I’m guilty :0)
painted or glazed ??? porcelain is a type of ceramic if it is glazed it should be fine but avoid any with red since red glaze has lead in and it will leach out
but if it is painted on the outside don’t do it don’t use it
