Im looking into buying one male crown tail betta fish from petco. I want to know the following:
- Are they hard to care for?
- How big should the tank be?
- How often should I clean the tank?
- Should I put rocks at the bottom / coral in the tank?
Thank you!!!

betta fish are very easy to care for. the tank can be as small as a jar… but please dont put them in a small containment! you can put them in a standard fishbowl for 10 dollars. for 1 betta fish clean the tank when it looks cloudy or dirty and maybe once a month. you can put a small fake plant or a real plant, must be freshwater, coral is freshwater btw… make sure you only get 1 male betta, cause they will fight. when there are bubbles on top of the tank that is a bubble nest…showing he is ready to mate. feed tetra flakes 3-4 days. filter is not needed but it will help a lot for him to live. light is needed!
no there not. 1 to 2 gallons. ounce a week. if you want to you dont have to.
1.no
2.I say two gallon tops.
3.Do 25% changes every week
4.Sure why not
5.REMEMBER THERE AGRESSIVE DON’TADD MORE THEN ONE BETTA.GET A FILTER!=]
1. ABSOLUTELY NOT
2. At least 1 gallon but if you want hime to be really happy give him a 5 gal.
3. Just get a filter it takes care of everything. But if you don’t then change it weekly.
4. I’d put gravel cause it makes the tank look better.
-Are they hard to care for?
Unless you are trying to kill it, no.
- How big should the tank be?
Small as a goldfish bowl, or big as a lake.
- How often should I clean the tank?
Depends on the size. If it is a normal fish bowl, clean it at least once a week, or twice if it gets dirty quick.
- Should I put rocks at the bottom / coral in the tank?
That’s totally up to you.
P.S.
DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PUT TWO MALES IN THE SAME BOWL. THEY ARE VERY TERRITORIAL, AND WILL FIGHT TO THE DEATH.
We actually got a special 1 gallon betta tank at Petco for about $10. It’s purple with purple gravel and a little, green plant. We also got a little light to attach to the top. We change the water about once a week. We feed him a tiny amount of special flakes everyday (though everyday isn’t necessary).
first of all betta fish are not hard to take care of
the tank should at least be a 5 or 10 gallon tank
if you install a filter you wont have to clean the tank alot
you should put gravel at the bottom
and last betta fish like to hide alot so you should put plants ect.
