A 29g aquarium with 2 20-40g filters is big enough for??
How many fancy goldfish?
It has no gravel, a few big rocks and fake plants, 2 filters for 20-40 gallon aquariums, 2 12 inch bubble bars with an air pump, stress coat, stress zyme, and easy balance.
The filters I have are:
1x Aquatech 20/40
1x Penguin 125
And will they be really really happy in this sort of set up? Is there something else I should add, or take away? I want my fish to be the happiest I can possibly afford to make them.
I read that they eat live plants, and also that having gravel was bad because it trapped too much poop, how can I have no gravel and plants so they won’t eat them… Can’t I still have the fake ones in there too? I mostly put them in there so the bacteria would have somewhere to go and stick on, since there’s no gravel.
thanks for your opinion, the z, however, I know that commons can get nearly 24 inches long at max potential, and therefore, I would not even consider putting a single common in this tank, however, a forum full of people who have kept fish as long or longer than you have (specializing in goldfish) has informed me that I can put 1 fancy for the first 15 gallons and each extra fancy gets 10 more gallons, so in 29 gallons, I will have 2 fish. They also informed me that each common needs at least 30 gallons PER fish, so I would not “stock it with commons”.
It irks me when people think it should be against the law to “abuse fancy goldfish” but think absolutely nothing of cramming commons in whatever gallonage of water they deem acceptable.
Well the rocks are for keeping the plants from floating off, really, I don’t want to have NOTHING in the tank, how boring would that be for the fish? I know they don’t “appreciate” decorations, but I’m sure not being in a completely sterile and empty space would be a little more comfortable for them, thanks sooooo so much for all your advice everyone, even the z, even though I wouldn’t follow his advice, it IS nice to not get answers like “15 to 20″ I’m a novice, but even I know that’s just stupidity….

two comfortably, 3 max

make sure the tank is cycled BEFORE you add them, this is more than letting the filter run, read more here:

add some real plants instead of fake.
other than that it sounds good. don’t forget to feed them fresh veggies and fruits a few times a week.
Adult size, 2 or 3.
Smaller ones, you could keep more, but for life, 2 is perfect.

Tanks don’t need gravel or decoration. this is for you.
Fact about fancy’s here (I am a professional breeder) Fancy’s do NOT need 15 gallons for the first fish and 10 for each other fish. this is a myth. If that were the case there would be NO goldfish breeders since it would take thousands of acres of property to raise fancy’s.
a 29 can house 5 fancy’s with no problems and for their entire life. Fancy’s rarely reach their max potential of 8 inches. there are exceptions and a few monsters sneak thru however rare. look at 6-7 max and pearl scale types 5-6. When talking about goldfish it is more the filtration and surface area not gallons. it is also measured in POUNDS of fish not inches. 30 gallons of water in a standard tank is not large enough to house a common for life. You need a short wide tank so your fish has room to “Turn around” Commons can get larger than 24 inches. Comets remain around 12.
As for the beneficial bacteria, it is mostly in the filter media, but also the glass and decorations. There is no harm in adding gravel since goldies also love to suck the algae off the rocks.
goldfish do eat live plants but not all of them. If you are going to house more than even 2 in this tank, you are going to have a tough time keeping plants. Two fancy’s can rip thru 4 plants in a matter of days. you can also plant plants that they do not eat for decoration
You also do not need stress coat and stress zyme. One or the other here. NO aquarium salt. Only Epsom salt when needed.
Fruits and veggies at least 3 times per week.
Also air pumps and bubble wants are great for decoration, but do very little to nothing in the tank for the fish. Dissolved oxygen will be produced or exchanged at the filter here.
I would also ditch the rocks. Goldies don’t care about the rocks. Just something else to pick algae off of. Remember they displace water as well so you will not be at 29 gallons.
