300 Gallon Aquaponic Garden System Part 1 (And Bell Siphon!)

Aquaponic system with 300 gallon fish tank and 150 gallons of grow bed. Aquaponics combines aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil). Also, how a bell siphon works.

The water level has to be lowered or many, but not all types of plants, will die. Root rot happens when the plant “drowns”. Roots need a lot of oxygen, oddly enough.

Awesome system! The syphon action trick is genius. Thanks for the explanation!

he’s doing an ebb and flow system, he cant leave the water up because the roots need air. you just want to give the plants enough waer so they dont dry up and get enough nutriens. look up ebb and flow/flood and drain systems

I looooooooove growing my own weed! I’ve always used pot seeds that I order online from GROWINGWEEDSEEDS [.] COM and my harvest is always an awesome one! I’m thinking of ordering some feminized seeds this time, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if it is actually worth it?

thank you so much for the video and taking effort into explaining..

if i may ask, what really is the point of a siphon system?

does regularly raising and lowering the water level really have any positive effect on the growing plants?

    root rot

please pardon my ignorance, im a 2 day old beginner in aqua/hydro ponics. :)

Its not that easy with auto siphon on an aquaponics setup. The water in and out need to be balance. The siphon need to be started with the minimum of water inflow,, if too much it will not stop and cause low water in the bed. If to slow the water coming in the siphon will not work and cause high water level.

Check out my video response for explanation.

    cheers.

hey could you please explain your knowledge in easy terms….what is a space nipple and to extend horizontal where? other 90 facing down under the the grow bed??
    Thank you for your input
    Karen

  8. bahnscott says:

    Definently not.

  9. CliverMcguiver says:

As a plumber I have seen many self siphoning devices.

If he took 2 – 90 degree elbows and place the first to extend horizontal then a small space nipple and the other 90 facing down and add a pipe to go close to the bottom — bingo self siphoning…use 1-1/2 pvc for fast drain.

  10. bahnscott says:

    I don’t think he does.

  11. bahnscott says:

Yes, but I think he ended up using bluegill.

  12. bahnscott says:

the poster has tried to answer what he can, but he did not build this, so he doesn’t have the answers to most of the questions.

  13. pinkstrawberrypuding says:

i think this is great.what i dont think is great is that the poster of this video is not answering anyones questions.

  14. thedolb says:

i would like to see them to

  15. f0rensicator says:

Did you by any chance make blueprints/plans/drafts/sketches of the system? I’d love to see them.

    ARE THE CATFISH FOR FOOD??

  17. Diglet2 says:

what if you made pvc rings with holes in the spreading outward about 3-4 inches and make them surround the siphon like 1/16 as many will fit and have 4-5 rings

  18. YouAdamNazzkl0wn says:

I don’t see the advantage of the bell siphon over a standpipe with some mesh over the top.

looks good though- I have faith in ya!!

    on to part 2….

  19. squishitrishi says:

i have put together an aquaponics system my self and I have attempted a bell syphon. I say attempted because if the water could get high enough it would work do you think i need a bigger pump or could i close the gap between the stand pipe and the syphon itself I don’t know. I am at a loss. I need help! I may post a vid on it so you could see it.

cant wait to see this all up and running. what part of us do you live and when is part2-3 commingout? how big is lift pump?is there any chems used to maintain this system? and can you let me now formula as per first vid fish per gal??? realy cool!!!!

  24. Leibensborn says:

very innovative of u to design not only an aquaponic system but one which automatically syphons the water back. Hope the half barrel stays moist enuf for the bactaria to live. i love the idea of aquaponics. hope to make my own eventually.
