Fish of the day Ep.4 Blue Gourami’s and Gold Gouramis

mastermindnews- New fish of the day. Blue Gouramis and Gold Gouramis The three spot gourami, Trichogaster trichopterus, is a labyrinth fish. The natural coloration of this fish gets its name from the two spots along each side of its body in line with the eye, considered the third spot. Marketed fresh or salted and pickled, they are also popular in the fishkeeping hobby, commonly kept in aquariums. Depending on the various artificial color morphs, the species may be known under other common names including the Blue gourami, Cosby gourami, Gold gourami, and the Opaline gourami. Three spot gourami are endemic to the Mekong basin in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam and Yunnan in southeast Asia. These fish live in marshes, swamps, canals, and lowland wetlands. They migrate during the flood season from permanent water bodies to flooded areas, such as seasonally flooded forests in the middle and lower Mekong. During the dry season, they will return to these permanent water bodies. These fish feed on zooplankton, crustaceans and insect larvae. The male builds a bubble nest for the eggs, which he protects aggressively. The Three spot gourami is a hardy fish. This species can be housed with a variety of tank mates that are of similar size and temperament. While males can be territorial with each other, they become timid around other, more aggressive fish. The ideal tank set-up would be an aquarium of a minimum of 150 litres (33 imp gal; 40 US gal) and have plenty of live plants

Do Red Eared Slider Turtles Cannibalize Themselves?

I have 3 adult red eared sliders in an aquarium. They are larger than the size of my palm. Now, I recently bought a younger red eared slider that are tinier than the previous ones. Will it be okay to put them together? I’ve seen the 3 large turtle bite each other for food competition and they don’t get hurt. Will the larger ones make the smaller turtles their meal. They are of the same species by the way.

Why Is My Fish Always Sleeping?

he like rests on the gravel almost. ive never seen a fish act this way. the occasional times he does swim around he seems perfectly healthy even a little frisky. sometimes he’ll be perfectly still staring straight up at the top of the tank. i hope hes not sick but ive had fish before and this seems weird. any ideas? btw hes a beta.

Should I Move My Fish Because Of High Ammonia?

My tank was in the process of cycling when all the sudden the power went out for 4 days. It is a 20g tank. I woke up to find my balloon belly molly upside down but still alive. I cleaned up my old 10g which is already cycled. Now he is fine.
I still have 3 cories, 4 guppies, and 4 neon tetras.
I figured it would be a good idea to put the cories in considering they are the most sensitive.
Besides that though it looks like all the other fish are doing just fine. What should I do?

Marine Fish Aquarium?

anyone know any good books articles about setting up a marine fish aquarium for a beginner needs to cover heating lighting etc and water conditions, basically a starters guide.

Betta Fish Has A Bloated/ Bulging Throat…help! Fast :o!? (please)?

I have a beautiful blue/purple male betta who is housed in a 5.5g filtered aquarium. As I was cleaning the water, I noticed a sort of bulging, bubble-like throat. Its not like a small pimple or anything, its literally the whole throat section, AKA the part right after the gills but before the ‘body. The pelvic fin is located there (the pelvic fin as in that long small fin, not the big fin at the bottem. He is acting relatively normal, no different behavior. His only companions in that tank are a snail and a bunch of plants. Sorry if this is confusing, im trying to give the full description.

I have just placed half a Catappa/Indian almond leaf in there and added like 1/2-3/4 of a TBSP of aquarium salt (not marine salt). Will this help?

How To Save Bettas From Pet Stores?

I don’t know what everyones views here are on Bettas in little plastic cups, but I’m really growing sick and tired of seeing them in every pet store AND LFS I’ve been to.
Only one so far (My LFS) has had the decency to put them in square glass tanks. Not the best size, but a hell of a lot bigger than those damn cups, and they also have a filter that filters all the tanks at once.
I always question pet store workers “Are you sure they’re happy in such tiny cups?”
And I always get the same reply with “They’re not very active fish and they’re found living in puddles in their natural habitat.”
How do I argue with this? Do I bust out my knowledge and research I’ve done on Bettas and get kicked out of the store? lol
