Betta Fish Alseep All The Time?

I bought a betta fish yesterday at Pet-co. He is a beautiful half moon betta and was very lively and energetic in the cup they sold him in. I transferred him to his new home, making sure temperatures were even, and used a water conditioner. He has a heater that I keep at 80 degrees. I know its normal for bettas to take time to get use to their environment, but all he does is sleep in his leaf hammock. If I approach the tank, he might move, but then immediately goes back to sleep. He isn’t interested in food, not flakes, pebbles, or worms! I really hope he isnt sick. I am just wondering, is this normal?

Marine aquariums are very expensive and tedious to mantain. If you’re a beginner, go for freshwater.

Where Did This Snail Come From?

I have a large fish aquarium with fish and live plants, but I have no idea where this snail came from. It’s about the size of my pinky fingernail and it looks like the ones you see at Petco in the aquariums. I don’t plan on getting rid of it. I just want to know how it got in there.

Fish tanks! regarding gallons per fish?

Question by Stephen: Fish tanks! regarding gallons per fish?
Hi. I am trying to make a new aquarium for my son, a 50 gallon tank. Anyways, the first question I have regards fish and how much water is needed per fish. When it says “requires minimum 10 gallon tank” under information, does that mean that only those 10 gallons should be for that fish. For instance in my aquarium, a 50 gallon tank, would I only be able to get 2 fish that require a minimum of a 25 gallon tank, or could I get more? Is the minimum tank requirement for a fish considering that that’s the only fish within those requirements? or??? Please let me know if you have any idea, thanks.
I am mostly trying to find out how many fish i can put in the big tank. When i hear a fish needs a 50 gallon tank, does that mean that said fish should be the only fish in that 50 gallon tank, or that I can have more in the tank?
I was actually considering salt water fish with a few small corals with room to grow ect… but I heard basslets are mild tempered fish and do well in coral environments so i was planning on getting 10-20 fish consisting of 3-4 different kinds of basslet.. either way i suppose the best information will come from a fish store.. thanks for your replys

most people say 1 inch of full grown fish per gallon. but that’s mainly for small community fish. if you had a school of 6 neon tetras thats 1.5inches per fish so that’s 9 inches of fish, so around 10 gallons would be good for a school of 6 neon tetras. but bigger fishes like cichlids or some catfish need much larger tanks. like an oscar fish grows up to 12 inches but needs atleast a 55 gallon tank. so it depends on what fish you get and what combination of fish.

Went On Vacation, Fish Tank Is Disgustingly Dirty – Want To Clean It Properly?

DISCLAIMER: I am new to the whole fish scene and have very little knowledge about proper maintenance aside from gravel vacuums. I have a 10 gallon tank and a few basic fish.
I went on vacation for 2 months and my friend was supposed to watch my fish for me. She fed them daily but for some reason never changed the filter and didn’t use any of the ammonia and algae control chemical thingies I bought… I get back and my fish tank is disgusting… there is gross black/green stuff all over the tank walls, plant things and gravel.
I used my gravel vacuum and cleaned up as much as I could (30% water change) and added some of the ammonia reducer (it smelled awful and from my understanding that’s ammonia build up) and some algae reducer/growth control.
My question is how do I *SAFELY* clean my tank properly? The gravel is significantly better but the tank walls + plants/ornaments are pretty gross. I was thinking about buying one of those magnetic wall cleaners is that a good idea? and I remember reading that you should never clean out an entire tank (remove fish, clean gravel, plants, etc) is this true?
Thanks in advance for any help!

What Kind Of Light Should I Use For My Aquarium?

I have a 35g hexagonal tank that is about two feet deep. I’m setting the tank up and would like to grow dwarf hair grass as a lawn on the bottom of the tank. I already have the substrate and CO2 ready, now I just need to find a quality light to make these babies spread like wildfire. So, any ideas on the strength and type of light I should use to help them grow?

Engineering For The Aquarium Filter Question.?

I understand how an aquarium foam filter works in principal as far as biological and mechanical filtering is concerned. My issues involve volumes – such as the volume of water flowing, the volume of air needed to move the water, and the volume of bacteria on the filter material.
My question is how are these foam filters rated?
Is it volume of foam?
Is it the tube size where the air and water flows?
Why is a 3.5 inch cubed filter rated for 10 gallons, but a 7 inch cubed is rated for 30 gallons?
It is twice the volume – not 3 times so that makes no sense to me.
The air “lift” tube is the same on both.
Is there a spreadsheet or formula one can use to compute the water movement through such a tube?
How would you measure the weak air pressure from an aquarium pump?
This leads into other questions about these filters such as…
Why not a 100 inches cubed with a 120 gallon per hour power head for a 30 gallon aquarium?
Other than the displacement in the tank, would it not be a better match for the load?
If the flow rate is so low, why is that acceptable when we would want higher flow rates in a canister or hob filter? The suggested rates for those filters are at least 4 times the tank volume per hour. Hence a 30 gallon aquarium needs a 120 gph flow rate.
Is there any studies that say 7 inches cubed is the perfect size for up to a 30 gallon tank?
If so where can I find them?
How do I know that enough water flows through the sponge?
Please no novice answers.I feel pretty well assured I understand nitrogen fixing bacteria in principal.
I do not know the area of bacteria compared to the bio-load of a fish tank.
Do not be afraid to send me engineering formulas. Those are most likely the answers that will serve me best.
Per inch which gives the greatest filter area – a sponge filter or a ceramic filter of the some volume?
I recognize the greatest filter volume for a given area many well be the fluid sand filter, but it has an appearance issue.

Multiply Braces Question?

How many times a day to you brush your teeth?
How many times should you floss your teeth?
I recently got my braces on three days ago, so I am just starting out. I can eat a sandwich but I have to use my hands and tear it before I eat it, and I can eat crispy foods like chicken or fish, but I have to go slow when chewing it. I am sick of eating soft foods, it really does irritate me.
When can I harder foods?
When can I actually tear foods (such as fries or a sandwich)?
