How Often Should I Be Cleaning My 35 Gallon Fish Tank?

I just recently purchased a 35 gallon fish tank and currently have 7 cichlids in it that came with the tank. I’ve cleaned the tank every week now for the last three weeks because within a week it turns completely murky green and you can only see the fish when they come close to the sides. I use a water treatment and make sure I clean the tank thoroughly as well I do have filters in the filter. What am I doing wrong, or why is my water turning green so fast???

Why Do My Hamsters Sleep A Lot?

when i first got them they would run a lot, play around, etc.
after 2 – 3 months, now they just sleep a lot.
i know they’re nocturnal, but i ask this question because now even at night they sleep…
they don’t seem to finish their food, they only want the sunflower seed, and ignores other seeds
i already gave them vitamins, mixed in water or as a tablet for them to chew on. but i don’t see any signs of illness too… just laziness
one more thing: i just changed my hamster’s cage, from a small aquarium into a larger decent sized wire cage, which also had a second story / level…. how long does it take for them to learn climbing the stairs and such?

Do Ghost Shrimp Attack Sick Fish?

I recently remove my female betta from a 10 gallon sorority tank to a 1 gallon tank since it has ich. Then I noticed my female betta had torn up fins(not fin rot I had experience with that disease) I put a ghost shrimp to eat the flakes she doesn’t eat. The ghost shrimp is one inch big and the female is 1 1/2 (with out the fins) do you think the ghost shrimp attacked it? Also do ghost shrimps need airpumps or filters in there tanks? Sorry for the long questions bt plz answ my qst!

i put filtered water and boiled it than added a bit of lettuce in boiling water for 2m. than i took a small container the size of a pop can and filled it with aquarium water and put in lettuce in container than closed it
did i do this correctley if so how will iknow if its almost ready

How Do I Quiet Down A Fish Tank Filter? (marineland Penguin 150)?

I have a Marineland Penguin 150 aquarium filter on a 20 gallon fresh water tank and the bloody thing is loud. I have adequate water and I’ve moved around the impeller making sure the either end of the rubber “bearings” are seated correctly but the loud humming is so annoying. Any ideas?

Is African Mopani Wood Not Suitable For Guppies?

I was at petsmart yesterday looking for some african mopani wood for my 55 gallon aquarium. It has a pleco, 2 guppies, and 5 ghost shrimp. A petsmart employee came up to me and asked what I was looking for and I told him african mopani wood. He also asked me what fish I had and I told him. He gave me this look, the look people give other people when they think something is a really bad idea. Then he went to explain to me about how a fish should live in an aquarium with things from its native habitat. Now i’m totally confused on what to do. I’ve heard that african mopani wood is great for aquariums and I can’t find anything on the web about what wood guppies had in their natural environment. He said he wasn’t an expert in tropical fish but an expert in salt water fish so I couldn’t ask him for help. Does anybody know what wood guppies had in their natural environment? Has anybody heard before or know that mopani wood isn’t suitable for guppies?

Introducing New Hamsters?

i volunteer at an animal shelter and they had a hamster that had babies a few months ago, well nobody wants the mom… so they were going to euthanize her ( i have no idea why) so i took her home with me today…. I already have one hamster (a female fancy russian dwarf) she has a 25 gallon aquarium tank to run around in, but i have no idea how to introduce them… My hamster is very friendly towards other hamsters and used to share the same tank with another hamster until the other hamster died. Do you have any ideas on how to introduce the two?

Convict Cichlids: Tank Size Issues/ Tankmates?

Hi, I have a 20 gallon long with a 30 or 40 gallon filter (i don’t remember, sorry). I’ve been researching Convict Cichlids non-stop for awhile now, and I’m very interested. But I just have a few questions
1.) How many convicts would work in a 20 gallon? I don’t want to just leave one, it seems a little boring. And what combinations (Male female) would work?
2.) If I only got one, what other tank mates would go good with it? Could I get a few cory cats or a school of tiger barbs? Could I put another cichlid in with it? What would work?
3.) What to do with the babies if I get a breeding pair! (Can i feed them to a school of tropical fish in another aquarium)?
Any other information is appreciated!
