Is My Betta Fish Sick Or Just Getting Old?

My betta fish has been around for almost 2 years this december. I’ve noticed that his color has faded and he looks more black. His fins look closed and clumped together and his stomach looks slightly swollen. He seems to be swimming around in his take still but every now and then i’ll see him sitting at the bottom of the tank for a while and that worries me. He still seems to be making bubbles and breathing fine… not abnormally aggressive or anything… still eating ok, about 3-4 pebbles in the mornings and evenings (says the food directions). hmm… I clean is tank about every week or sometimes every week and a half. I put cool/room temp water with water conditioner stuff for tap water and 2 small pebbles of aquarium salt. Is he just getting old or is he actually sick? I can’t tell… :(

What Do I Do With Marine Aquarium Water?

I’m starting a marine aquarium (fish only) and I heard that you must go get reverse osmosis water for your tank. I’m wondering if it would be possible to put tap water in my tank and then the dechlorinater and then the salt and mix it all and then let it run for 2 or 3 weeks before I put live rock or fish in. Is this possible because it makes sense and less effort.

Separating baby convict cichlids from parents?

Question by Teal: Separating baby convict cichlids from parents?
My convict cichlid “couple” is raising a large group of babies (about 1 month old) in my 29 gal. tank, however I am concerned that they are thinking about breeding again. I tried dropping the tank temp a little to keep them from breeding, but it looks like it’s not doing the trick, so I will pull one parent out into another tank. Is it better to leave the Mom or the Dad in with the babies?

No. Separate them. Many species eat their young.

Can I Use Suran/cling Wrap To Cover A Dog Cage To Put Iguanas In?

I have 2 iguanas that are still small and got them a huge dog cage to put them in, right now they are in a aquarium (medium-large size). And an iguana owner of many years said the aquarium was to small. Anyway, what can I use to cover the holes in the dog cage. I was thinking suran/cling wrap but wasn’t sure. So please answer from experience or actual knowledge of iguanas. Please don’t answer if you don’t know for sure. I want my iguanas safe, healthy and not able to get out. Thanks in advance.

Cleaning Gravel For Aquarium?

I’m setting up a new aquarium and am afraid I didn’t clean the gravel well enough the first time. We used about 35-40 lbs of gravel for our 20 gallon tank and had no bucket or colander, so we put the gravel in the tank, filled it to about halfway, moved it and the water around, and sucked out most of the dirty water. We repeated this process three or four times before filling up the tank completely. The first four or five gallons of new water was slightly cloudy, but as we filled up the full 20 gallons, the water became much clearer. Now that we’ve had the filter running for about 16 hours, the water is very clear. We’ve already added conditioner, so I don’t want to disturb the tank again until I add the fish – which is in another couple days (a goldfish or two and maybe three barbs or tetras).
Would this possibly affect my fishes’ health down the road? Thanks!

Any Tips For Owning A Ryukin Goldfish And A Shubunkin Goldfish?

Hey,
Like I said in my earlier questions ill be getting two fish in the future. The breeds of those fish will be a calico Rukin goldfish and a calico Shubunkin goldfish.
My question is for people who have owned these fish before, what are some good tips you may have for me to make my experience with these fish much more fun and easier!
I have done all my research for these fish but wanted to here from people with past ownership of these breeds. I have owned an aquarium and other fish before and then put the idea of owning a fish down for a while and lately I have decided to dust off that idea. I want my fish to grow healthy and strong for many years and I am open to any tips or comments that you may have for me!
Please help and thnx again!! :)

“On a tank that size, you should be doing bi-weekly 15% water changes with a gravel vacuum to remove leftover food and fish poop. Replace the water you took out… Put all the chemicals into it first, rather than dumping undissolved chemicals into your tank. ” LittleBitty
