I have a betta fish, I got him almost a year ago and I’ve never had any problems with him. However, I notice he likes to float towards the top of his tank, with the tip of his nose or his back just poking out of the surface. I’ve touched him and he floats away like nothing wrong, but then a few minutes later he will float to the top again.
Also, when I am cleaning his bowl, I will put him into a small traveler plastic tank. There are (cleaned) seashells in it, similar to the ones hermit crabs use. Sometimes, I’ll see him stick his face deep inside of the shell, with his back fins just sitting out there, and he’ll be still for a long time. The first time I saw him do this, I thought he was dead, I reached in to see, and the moment I touched him, he freaked out and swam out of the shell and away.
Is my fish sick? Is there something wrong with his water temperature? He usually acts weird when I put him into a bowl of clean water, but I’m very careful to make sure the water is the same temp as it was when he was originally in it.
