Something Wrong With My Fish?

My sons fish is acting very weird. It’s laying on the bottom of the tank barely moving, sometimes even leaning on it’s side. Other times it’s more angled looking up from the bottom but it hasn’t come up to eat or anything. Water is normal, temp is about 76* f . There is a swordfish and a guppy(male for sure) in the tank also. My son is 7 and worried the fish might be sick but the lady at the petstore had no idea. Fish has been doing this for 24 hours. Thanks!

Sick Or Depressed Betta Fish?

I bought a Betta fish about five months ago and made his home in a five gallon, heated and filtered tank. He’s usually swimming around, happy and energetic. He hasn’t had any problems so far. About two weeks ago, I cleaned the tank. I put new gravel into the tank. He loved it after he got over the shock. Then school started about five days ago and he started acting funny.
Tuesday, I came home really late after a club meeting and he was just sitting on the bottom of the tank. When I fed him, he didn’t eat. He was like this since today, so I moved him to a smaller tank for the time being (I wanted to make sure that it wasn’t something I put in the tank). I used the left over old gravel I had and conditioned the water like I normally would, but made it proportional. He’s been in the smaller tank for about three hours and he seems to be doing better. He’s swimming around fine and I fed him a little bit ago and he ate.
The large tank doesn’t look dirty at all, and the only thing new I put in was the gravel. Was the gravel making him sick, or was he just depressed? If he was sick, what is it and how can I treat him? If he’s depressed, how can I make him feel better?

Getting A Betta Fish…? Any Tips?

Hi! Okay, so I’ve never had a fish before and I never even wanted one until a couple of days ago when was at the pet store with my boyfriend and we saw some really beautiful bettas. We’re both in college, living in dorms, so fish are the only pets allowed. I’m used to having animals around and I miss my pets, so I thought a betta fish might make a good companion to just chill with. Although I was initially attracted to the idea of a small, low-maintenance bowl, I have since done my homework on the little guys. I’m planning on getting a 2-3 gallon aquarium (I wish I could get a bigger one, but I just don’t have the space! :C) and some small decorations, and I know I need water conditioner, betta food, and a heater… I just want to make sure I’m not missing anything! I don’t want to be one of those people whose fish only lasts a few days. So basically… what do I need to start off with a healthy, happy betta? I’m planning on shopping at PetSmart, if you can give any product recommendations or reviews… thanks so much!

Are My Fish Going To Die?

I got about 32-33 tiny fish 2 days ago. 1 of them already died. The water is already starting to fog up. And most of them go to a little corner and stack up on each other. Here are some pictures of what I’m trying to say…http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab303…http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab303…http://i874.photobucket.com/albums/ab303…
they are alive. i can see them breathing and occasionally moving. sometimes when I feed them, some of them leave the corner but always end up coming back. What is wrong? Are they suffering and just too sick to swim? I’m really worried.

10 Gallon Aquarium What Would You Recommend?

I have a 10 gallon tropical tank that currently has 2 platies and 1 fancy guppy. I am soon adding 1 dwarf gourami. After these 4 fish, i cant decide what else to add. My options are…
2 zebra danios and 2 julii cory
OR
3 black skirt tetra and a few ghost shrimp
I know these are scholing fish and i will eventually move them to a 30 gallon and complete the schools. I am just wondering what would be better for now? I want all my fish to get along so no nippers. Also, if i go with the second option, would the ghost shrimp eat enough food to clean the bottom? any help is welcome.

How Large Of A Pond Do I Need To Keep A Gar In? Length, Width, Height In Feet?

I am planning on a fish pond. I’m still looking for a perfect spot on our home, that i would be permitted to place a pond. The pond is gona be outdoors. I’m planning on maybe a smaller version of gar… maybe 2.. a shovelnose… and maybe a silver arowana. Maybe 4 or 5 fish, depending on the size of the pond. Would it be better if the pond is elevated or dug beneath? would a 4 feet depth be ok for these fish? If i use cement on the pond, do i really have to make it thick? which is better fountain type irration or aquarium type irration? Could you guys give me lots of ideas? thanks!! this is gona be my first fish pond.. I’d like it to be real great! I’m from the philippines… so tropical weather… is this great for the choice of fish m getting?
