So, I’ve had this 45 gallon tank running for at least 3 months now, and I am ready to pack it up and sell it! I was so excited about learning about fish and taking care of them. But now, I’m just very discouraged. I have lost so many fish in trying to fill my tank. I first did let it run for about 3 weeks before even adding any fish. Every time I do a water change or add water b/c some has evaporated, I have fish that die. Yesterday, I filled my bucket to 2 gallons, b/c some water had evaporated out of the tank. I added the water conditioner to it and let it sit uncovered for about 4 hours before adding it to the tank. I then added the water and this morning, one of my original platys was missing. I just don’t want to keep killing these fish. But I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong. I keep an eye on my water, testing it at least twice a week. The levels in the water stay very consistant. No ammonia showing up and the ph stays around 7.6, and no nitrites showing up. All I have in the tank is a very small pleco, now only one platy, one glofish and three neon’s. Yes, I know I am supposed to have at lest 3 platys, at least 6 glofish and at least 6 neons. I have been trying to stock my aquarium for like 2 months. I just can’t get something right and the fish don’t last. The platy, which I didn’t even find in the tank, was one of my original ones i bought for the first time when adding fish. I’m just not sure what else to do. Thanks for any help. Also, I have well water, is that the problem?
