I currently have a 45 gallon tank stocked with a blood parrot cichlid, firemouth cichlid, a red tailed shark, 6 tiger barbs, and a rubberlip pleco(this pleco species tops out at 5-6″) Yes, i do understand this tank is a bit overstocked but at the moment all of my fish are juveniles, none exceeding 4inches yet. they all get along great and ive GREATLY researched all of these species. I am currently running a TetraWhisper EX70, which is a “hang over the side of the tank” style filter. its rated for 45-70 gallons and has been fine so far. but i worry it may not be enough as the fish grow. I havnt had experience with filters other than the hang over style filters so i dont know much about canister filters and the other types. But what kind of filter would be best for my tank? Any and all suggestions are appreciated.
