Freshwater Tropical fish boring?

My wife has a tropical aquarium and omg its like all the fish are dead in color. Except the cardinal and neon tetras are there any beautiful fish? They are all silver with some color on the fins…boring. can female bettas live together in a tank and not fight? She has black mollies, red wag platy’s and some bloodfins, otos, glowlights and they are boring in color. The bettas seem to be the most beautiful
Are the redtails sharks good in community tanks? I know not balas but can a red tail or a rainbow shark?

fish: fin rot medication?

My crowntail betta fish might have fin rot…I can’t tell for sure…can I give it fin rot medication just in case? (in other words, is it ok for me to give the fish fin rot medication given the fact that the fish may not have fin rot after all)?

Switching from freshwater to saltwater?

k so brief description: i got a freshwater tank blah blah got the fish the plants gravel stuff yeah blah. i wanu switch to a saltwater tank now. well not NOW but later on. i wanted to know is their any saltwater fish that require some similar needs of a tropical fish. obviously ill be needing some salt stuff for the water but wat about the temperature? i own guppies so yeah. thx a lot. oh yeah, i can use the same decorations too right? like plants this castle, gravel. illl be giving everything a nice warm bath without the soap. cuz thats wat someone told me not use soap for cleaning fish stuff. idk thx anyways for all your answers best answer gets 10 ptz!
one mini question. can i add a starfish. like a super small one. probably 2-4 inches in diameter. ooh i totaly forgot hold on the starfish idea in mind. but the saltwater fish dont have to be the same temp. please recommend any type of fish for a beginners saltwater tank. i heard about the blue tang is easy to tank care of. i like that fish too, it looks pretty lol. soooo what temperature would a starfish need. thats my basic question. sorry this was so long. itll pay off. :)
oh so now i guess i will try getting some “hardy fish” uhm live rock is coral right? cuz i searched it and yeah. uhm so yes i wont be getting too delicate fish. :( starfish is outa the picture.but i guess i can add some when i am comfortable with some hardy fish. i researched and saw that damsels are pretty cheap. like 6 bucks. thx just waiting for some more answers. post 1 is expected to win.:)

did anyone that sent in an answer to my oranda goldfish probem have any fish experience?

they were not ammonia burns, my ammonia & nitrite levels are right on. And it turned out to be a black velvet parasite that can be cured with medication. And my algae problem is one of two problems, 1). too much light or 2). too much food.
So none of the answers were correct or any help, but thanks for the input anyway.

Female Bettas?

I have a small aquarium with three female bettas in it.They all get along well. I added a fourth female betta to the tank. The fourth one has become aggressive to the other three. Should I take this one out of the tank or leave it there? What could happen if I leave it in with the other three? Could it kill one of the other three?

Facts About Discus Health

The most popular concerns about discus fish are those related to their health since they are know for being very sensitive to environmental conditions. It is essential for discus health that you recreate the living conditions they are used to in the wild: soft, slightly acidic clean water. Of course breeders do everything in their power to protect discus health given the fact that they also require special temperature and pH. Therefore if you plan on buying discus fish, you should start preparing their tank a month in advance to make sure you ensure discus health.

There are many problems associated with discus health, but I will mainly refer to the environmental ones, which seem to be the most common. For instance, the iodine deficiency may appear due to pollutants in water or improper feeding. Then, another problem related to discus health is the lack of vitamins in the food, which on the long term may create low immune system and deficient wound healing for instance. Vitamin C is essential for discus health; hence make sure you store food properly or you risk losing this vitamin though oxidation. Absence of this vitamin leads to bleeding, fin ulcerations and many other problems.

Many of the discus health problems appear because of breeder’s ignorance or failure to provide the proper living conditions. Once you take up breeding fish, there is a responsibility involved like with any other animal; should you find yourself overwhelmed, you can always turn to special discus health services provided by vet units. Information and tips you may find in books on discus health or on sites such as discus-fish-secrets are highly reliable and make a very good start when in comes to taking care of discus health. The authors of such books are usually experienced breeders from whom you’ve got lots to learn.

Discus health should not be an issue for someone careful enough to follow some ground rules. For instance, the water cycle should be functional all the time and no waste or uneaten food should be left in it. Discus health is threatened in case of over-heating. Don’t go over 31 degrees Celsius, as this will also lower the oxygen level in the tank and cause your fish to suffer from oxygen starvation. Monitor your discus health on a regular basis and check the living conditions daily or even several times a day if possible so that nothing goes wrong http://facts-about-discus-health.blogspot.com/
