I have had the tank setup and established for quite a few years now. I have both Malawian and Tanganyiken cichlids coexisting in the same tank without any problems.

I need to know how many times and when do you change the water.

My heater is the one that is always stuck at 25C or 77F.

And how much aquarium salt do I need to put in?

Btw I have 8 fish in a 10 gallon tank (with a filter) and my female platy has one white dot on his tail fin.

So what should I do Ich experts?

i have just purchased a tropical aquarium and was wondering what fish breed easily, ive heard livebearers are easy to breed. i want 2 breed them so i can but less fish and save me money.
also, what fish are the best algae eaters? or are snails better

I have a Koi in a 40 gallon tank with another fish. How big might the Koi get?

After fighting with this fish tank for the better part of three months, now I have only two fish that survive. Tiny, a Koi that I was given, who is now a good six or seven inches long and VERY fat, and a small blue Gourami named Chubby. Tiny gets along with his tank mate quite well, but the larger he gets the more I worry. Do I need to worry about Tiny outgrowing the tank, or will he do fine and be happy about it?

Also, any idea how I can get him to quit moving the plants and decoration in the tank around?
Oh we have a pond for him. It’s just trying to sort out when to put him out there. Odd that he and the other were the only two to survive the tank :P

How do I know if my platy is pregnant, she stays at the top and hide behind a decoration and his a gravid spot?

she is a blue platy, and she has a dark blue gravid spot. she stays at the top, and when I put food in the tank she eats just about 5 flakes, she doesnt try to eat the big flakes, and then she goes to the bottom of the tank and hide behind this big decoration, i dont have any plants inside of the tank. He belly is gettin big, and the bottom of it is smooth and looks like half of an oval instead of looking square, i think that she is in the early stage, please help me because she might be stressed and might need to be isolated from the other fish, by the way, i have five other fish, please respond as quick as you can. Thank You ; )

Building a habitat, caring for, and feeding a crab?

Yesterday I caught a ghost crab at the beach, and I don’t know how to take care of it. I have a tank at home but I want to know what I need and how to set it up so that I can let him go before we leave if he needs crazy weird/ expensive things. But like the average how to feed/ what they eat/ what kind of stuff to fill his aquarium with.

* I caught him at night on the shore by rocks. I heard that ghost crabs burrow in the day and run into to ocean at night for air, but I don’t know what to do about that.

I am planing on going to the pet store when we get home but I was hoping for some general idea so I knew if keeping him was worth it or not.

“Bio-Bag” filter cartridge for aquarium?

I’ve had a 5 gallon aquarium for one month now. I have about 3 too many fish that I am going to give away within a few days because I’m learning the hard way about overloading a tank.

The problem is that the filter cartridge (with the filter bag and carbon pebbles) was clogged and the water was not flowing through it. The water actually pushed up through the cartridge compartment and over the tank glass onto the table. I tried rinsing the original filter but that did not help at all.

I bought a new box of replacement filters and changed the entire filter (frame, bag, and carbon). I am doing some research now and found that it’s not good to change the entire filter media.

How should I have done this so as to not disturb bacteria or stress the fish?
