Hi guys,

My grandma recently was proud of my decision to keep a Betta fish and she admired the way I stood up to my uncle and kept the Betta the way I wanted to. You can see my profile questions for that story.

Anyway, my parents were happy as well. My dad promised me a huge aquarium for my coming birthday, and just today I got it. It’s 300 gallons in capacity. US Gallons. And he got me many ornaments, large beautiful rocks for decorations, 3 filters that (combined) go through 700 gallons, because he didn’t know which one I would want, large nets, 2 air pumps, water conditioner, you name it he got it. Love him!

My loving grandmother gave me 2 goldfish as a gift today too, because she would be in surgery on my birthday next week. I don’t know what goldfish this is but on my research online it is an Oranda goldfish, it looks like it’s got a red baseball cap. I’m 99% sure that’s what it is.

Both the goldfish are 1 inch in size only. Really small. But I had no idea I would be getting this gift. I planned to do a fish less cycle on my 300 gallon first, because I’m still new and I don’t want to risk cycling with fish (though, my Betta in the 6.5 gallon is still doing good).

My dad helped me set up the tank, because how is a 15 year old girl supposed to do all that by herself =)? But I’m torn!

I haven’t added any ammonia to the tank, but it’s up, decorated, and filters are running. I can’t keep the 2 one inch goldfish in bags forever. There is no point arguing with my sweet grandma about this, I don’t want to add to her misery before a major surgery.

Would a combined 2 inches of goldfish be okay to cycle my 300 gallon?

If not, I’m so confused I don’t know what to do.

I can’t keep these fish in their bags much longer.
