Hi all, ive got a 130l aquarium has been set up for some time now, i have in it platy, molly, guppies, neon’s, glow lights, and cory cats. The tetras got fin rot a while back which i treated fine, but all my platys (around
and all but 2 of my Molly’s have died, all the tetras and the Cory’s are fine, have lost a couple of guppies. My question is this, people say fish can live together in a ph slightly above/below their optimum levels, is the Ph the cause, no signs of disease can be found, i do weekly 20-25% water changes, none of the tetras seem to have the problem or the cats and they seem to like lower ph as far as books say anyway, am thinking the ph was too low for the guppies platy and Molly’s, iv reluctantly started to try a ph up treatment and its now showing as 6.7 it was between 6.0 – 6.4 before the treatment started the strips aren’t that accurate (am thinking of investing in a digital one) i cant think of anything else that would explain the problem!
If the ph is the problem, do i have to keep adding the ph up to keep it at a higher level (is there a longer term solution to keep the ph higher? What ph would you suggest for a mixture of those fish to live in healthily? I live in west coast of scotland so the tap water here is soft and seems to be of a low ph! Any help would be great as my tank is getting kinda spars since the Molly’s and platys went belly up, but not investing in any more fish till i can fix this!
