saltwater beginner?

I have this new reef ready aquarium. It comes with a sump, pump, a few powerheads, a protein skimmer, lights, filter, heater, and crush corals. At first I wanted to turn it into a freshwater tank with a few frontosa, but all of the other equiptment will be wasted. Can you guys tell me what else im missing other than salt and live rocks. I dont know how much salt to put in it. Also can you guys tell me what is the annual cost of running a saltwater fish tank. I’m planning to make it a fish only aquarium with a few pounds of live rock and live sand. I prefer to have one or 2 lion fish only.

I saw some other answers on yahoo answers and some people mention $40-$400 dollars. Can you guys tell me what goes in it to make it that expensive to run it. What steps do I take in cleaning Aquarium and water for Betta?

I recently purchased a Betta, should I change water 100% and clean aquarium and rocks as well?
I recently bought a betta & 2.5 gallon tank which I filled with Bottled water. This is my first aquarium and betta and not sure what I should and should not do. I am going to be using bottled water again too.

I have had varied replies to my question which confuses me more. I do have a whisper micro filter in this Mini Bow 2.5 aquarium. I still have not changed the water yet. Do I rinse the filter off, do I remove the betta from the tank and is it ok to use bottled spring water? The tap water I have here has a strong chemical smell to it so I am afraid to use it.

Also, do I clean the plastic plants and gravel in the tank?

Last question do I need to do water testing on the water. Hope someone can help me with these issues. :)

Can anyone help me find a good deal for a smaller aquarium kit?

Hey guys,

Could someone help me find a smaller aquarium kit, like ranging from 1-10 gallons, around 5 would be best. Online sites would be good. Like price range would be around 1$ to about 50$. Also around the 5-10 gallon range, how many small fish such as platies or mollies or freshawater fish like that could I fit in it? How many small freshwater fish could I fit in my 2.5 minibow i have now? I mean, since they’re so small, I would think I could fit atleast like 3 or 4, or am I wrong? Any good internet ot store deals would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Where is a good place to find diatoms for microscope slides?

I came into possession of a small light microscope with decent magnification (Up to 900X) over Christmas. It works well, but it didn’t come with any prepared slides. I’ve made a few – a little bit of plant matter here, a scrap of paper there… but I would love to see some diatoms make their way into my collection. I have several freshwater aquariums, and I was wondering if perhaps they could show up there?
Heh, I’m in a landlocked state, or I’d go get some samples. When I lived in South Carolina, there were some truly magnificent tidepools. But I doubt any of the marine aquarium suppliers here would let me borrow some of their brown algae; besides, that would be a really wierd question. xD

SF area drivable vacation trip, good for family with infant?

taking suggestions- we live in SF, have a 7mo old baby, and want a good, driving distance 2 day vacation. Like Monterey, Tahoe, etc. Ideas? What is good if we have a small one, we’d like something he’d like to see (zoos, aquariums), and us too (art, restaurants, shopping, outdoors) thanks Specific places if you can-
