I’m fooling around with the video feature on this camera. This is the view through the Vallisneria of the corner where my filter and heater reside. I have an air line bubbling up through the filter at the moment.

Water Changes in a Large Tank?

So I have a 55 gallon aquarium and I want these fish in it:

2-3 juvinile discus
4 german blue rams
4 black kuhli loaches
20 rummynose tetras
6 cory catfish

I already have the cories, german blue rams, and kuhlis.

I know discus need pristine water conditions.

So my question is, how often do you think I’ll need to do water changes and how much each time? I know you can measure using test kits between each to know for sure, but I want a ballpark number before I go out and get them.

I am getting them gradually, only a few at a time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

** Please don’t tell me this tank will be too small for three discus, I’ve done my research and talked to experience aquarists who say I could have 5 in a 55 gallon. They wouldn’t be moved to a larger tank later. Please don’t make this a big deal, but three discus will be absolutely fine in a 55.
I have a marineland penguin 350 filter and I’m getting an aquaclear 70 for the other side so I can get overfilteration. I don’t want four, just three.

Should I use a filter cartridge AND a bio-wheel when cycling a 29 gallon aquarium tank???

Does using a mechanical filtration (filter floss cartridge) and a biological filtration (bio-wheel) at the same time in a 29 gallon tank affect the amount of time for the proper bacteria to grow on the bio-wheel? thank you in advance.

how many pounds of live rock should i buy?

im getting a 24 gallon nano cube in a month or so and i was wondering how much live rock i should get? i don’t want it to be covered with live rock but i want enough to put a few corals on. and if u could direct me to a site where i can get good live rock from it would be greatly appreciated! im not really interested in damsel or clowns so if u could also give me some good fish ideas that will also be greatly appreciated! last question does the aquarium make a lot of noise or does it depend on what kind of filtration system you have?

What size aquarium should I buy for the fish I am getting?

Here are the fish i am planning on getting
-Some mollies
-Some swordtails
-Some platies
-Some bigger tetras
-Some corydoras catfish
-one plecostomus
-one angelfish
I am not sure how many of each type to get. I researched these fish and found out that i should get at least eight mollies, eight swordtails, and eight platies. Also I found out that i should get 6 bigger tetras(not sure what kind), and 6 corydoras catfish, and one plecostomus and one angelfish.That sounds like alot of fish. I am not sure if that is too much. It sure does sound like it. Please tell me if i am correct on how many fish of each type i should get. Also, I would like to know what size aquarium i should buy for these fish. All the websites say that these fish go well together, so I’m pretty confident on that. I have read that you should have 1 gallon of water for every inch of fish you have. Using that method I came up with 158 gallons. Please let me know if I’m correct.
WOW! I learned alot in just 15 minutes! It looks like i’m going to put five of each type (except the Plecostomus and catfish). I think I’ll get a tank anywhere between 50 and 100 gallons. I signed up for this thing to ask this question and never knew how many good answers i would get in 15 minutes!
