What’s the hardest/expensive tank to build: a heavily planted tank with Discus, or a saltwater FOWLR tank?

I’m about to buy a 90 gallon aquarium with a matching canopy and stand… equipment wise, it has nothing and I pretty much sold everything last December because I wanted to start over. I’ve kept freshwater community aquariums (peaceful & semi-aggressive) and I currently have a lightly planted tank, and I want to take it to another level to make it worth it.

If I get a freshwater planted tank, I want to make it worth it and I’m going to splurge on a Tek T5 HO light fixture worth around $459 dollars, a Co2 system, a reverse osmosis system to change water parameters to match those of the discus, heavy duty canister filters, a forest of plants, and as much Flourite black sand as I can stuff in there, ect ect. This is something I’ve been posponing on for so long now, I’ve sort of given up… especially with the high odds of me failing when it comes to keeping Discus, since they’re so sensitive.

I’ve also always wanted to step into the saltwater arena, but like many people I’m a bit nervous about going in that area and even though I would absolutely LOVE a reef tank, they’re expensive so I’d probably only start up with a FOWLR tank. I’ve also got no clue when it comes to the stocking… I’ve read up on easy fish to keep for beginners, but none of them really gets me excited, and makes me want to build a tank around it.

Not sure if in comparison, budget and difficulty wise keeping a saltwater tank is harder or easier than keeping a heavily planted tank with discus. I’ve never kept a heavily planted tank with that fish and obviously never kept a saltwater tank, so a little guidance would help! :)

Just want opinions, and if there’s any saltwater gurus an estimate of how much I would need to spend on the equipment to make a FOWLR and with the possibility of transforming it into a reef one day cuz I have no clue. ;>

How to clean aquarium that was infested with fish lice?

I had already come up with this problem but it come back again. i spotted my oranda having 3 lice and i remove it with tweezer and i already quarantine it and dose it with anti-parasite but im worried that the the fish lice might already lay eggs on the main aquarium and anytime soon my other goldfish might get infected. Im really worried help! what should i do to prevent fish lice and what should i do to clean the tank so it would be fish lice and fish lice eggs free. my tank is made out of acrylic. Help.

Can you make aquarium decorations out of the fabric you buy at the store?

Why has my aquarium water gotten progressively cloudy?

How do I clean my freshwater aquarium of salt residue and dead algae?

My aquarium is in serious need of a deep cleaning. I had a serious algae bloom a few weeks ago and used an algae killer to get rid of it. Now there is dead, black algae film on my rocks, silk plants, and walls. I tried just scrubbing and it’s not coming off. Also, the salt residue is very hard. Is there a solution I can use to make the cleaning easier? What about the silk plants?

Aquarium help please!?

so if i wanted a small tank and just lets say 6-7 fish in there, probably a couple clownfish, a couuple regal tangs and a couple little pretty ones, do they need filtration and oxygen pumps or can i just put them in there, put the top on, feed it every day, and it will all be good?

Any suggestions for fish for a 29 gallon aquarium?

I bought a 29 gallon aquarium, got everything put in and am currently fish-less cycling. I need some suggestions for fish to put in it, though. I wanted a Bala shark and a couple Kissing Gouramis, but I’m being told that’s a bad idea for a 29 gallon. Any other suggestions?
I really want Bala sharks. would you agree that 29 gallon is to small for a couple?
