Distilled or tap water in freshwater aquarium?

In my 10 g platy aquarium I’ve been using distilled water from the water cooler, is this wrong? Should I be using just regular tap water? I’ve got a stress coat (tap water condioner, and a bottle of prime that removes chlorine, and also have some freshwater aquarium salt), should I be using some of this stuff every time toping up the aquarium with water, and is to much bad? Fish are being real inactive, just kinda lying on the bottom of the tank, what can I do to make them a little more active? 2 male and 2 female platy (1 pregnant other gave birth to 11 aborted fry a week ago). When males are done impregnating the females do they just ignore the ladies? I know I need another female, was actually thinking of a swordtail, is this a good idea?

Does anyone know where I can buy cultured bacteria?

Like a rock that’s been in an aquarium to help my cycling along.

In a book I have it says ask at your local pet shop, but neither of the ones near me have any rocks or anything in the tank except gravel, and that only barely enough to cover the floor.

Obviously I want somewhere close to me so it doesn’t die, or alternatively someone who could send some rock (or whatever) in a container with some tank water to keep it alive.

Anyone got any ideas where I should go about getting this?
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don’t name American shops. I’m in the UK. NOT America.
I have a friend with two goldfish – I never thought about her before but would that be okay to use?

Would it also be okay just to use some of her water? She won’t let me put any rocks in her tank (she says she won’t be able to find her fish!) so if I take her water when she does a water change will that work?

It’s better than nothing I suppose..
I should add I don’t have any fish in there yet, so if the water is contaminated it’ll be fine as there are no fish to kill :)

is there a way to connect to wired cages together or a wired cage and a aquarium tank cage?

i doubt u can but can i connect a wire cage with another wire cage (both with plastic bottoms or a wire cage and a tank so i can use both as my hamsters house??? thanks!

What are the odds of an Aquarium Leak?

I have had my 29gal. aquarium for almost 2 years now. I have never seen or experienced a leak personally, but my uncle did with his large aquarium 10 years ago. It happened while he was at a party. All the fish died except one.

╚ What are the odds of an aquarium leak?
╚ If one does occur, what do you do?
╚ How can I help prevent leaks?

My aquarium is on a strong stand and is level.

Can I use gravel from home depot for an aquarium ?

I saw bag of gravel at home depot, the price is much cheaper than pet stores. Are they the same type ? Can I use them for my aquarium ?
thanks

My new saltwater aquarium is not doing well…?

I have a saltwater aquarium that has been cycling for a while, did regular water changes, have had the water checked for all levels at the pet store and by myself and everything is good. I have a crab and two snails that are seemingly fine, had a clownfish that died, and now have a damsel that is not doing well. The fish seem to be sitting at the bottom of the tank with labored breathing. I did originally set up the aquarium with tap water and tap water conditioner and used a salt mix that could be the problem maybe metals… PLEASE DON’T TELL ME SALINITY BECAUSE IT IS PERFECT. I have two powerheads for the 55 gallon tank, no power head going, a freshwater filter…hang over the back kind (i think this might be the problem maybe too), salinity is fine, good oxygen flow and even a grounding probe as the people at the aquatics store think this could be the only thing left that could be the problem. My last 2 assumptions are that it could be heavy metals in the water or the filter is releasing something…I was considering doing a HUGE water change in an effort to save the fish…like 80% water change and then another 50% water change the next day. I do have some green stuff growing on the bottom of my sand, not sure what this could be…also I have roughly 35lbs of live rock and some live sand mixed in there. Any input would be helpful…

Aquarium lighting – conventional lamps.

Can you recommend a brand/model of conventional fluorescent lamp or other normal lighting suitable for a planted aquarium? ie; something one can buy from a hardware shop.
