What do i need to set up a 100 gallon aquarium?

I am buying a 100 gallon aquarium with the stand, light, and hood for $125 which seems like a good deal. I am undecided on if i want it to be freshwater or saltwater. I have been researching but there is so much information that i don’t know where to begin! What do i need to start a setup and what is the average cost to maintain it? Any suggestions???

Can you tell a real person’s age from a background check?

Hi, I’m trying to apply for a volunteer opportunity for the florida aquarium. it says that you have to be at least sixteen for the position and i’m only fourteen. i’m thinking about put sixteen on the application but it says that a background check will be need also. so, can they tell that i lied about my age on a background check?

What do you think about my tank?

So I started this tank about two months ago. I cycled it for only one week, but I used a filter from my other running tank(would think that it was enough to have it cycle faster). Levels seemed fine. A day prior to transferring the fish I transferred some rocks and deco into the new tank. On the day I transferred the fish I had also put 30-40% of that water inside the new tank and took out 50% of the water already in that new tank(for acclimation purposes. They water was at the same levels(had a heater in both tanks, ph and nitrate very similar too) . Voila almost instantly cycled tank…not really. A few days later my new tank starts getting cloudy and my nitrate levels start climbing fast.
Anyways…I learned my lesson…there is no such a thing as an instantly cycled tank. Thanks for the help though. After two weeks more of frequent water changes my levels are back to normal. The following pic is when the water started getting cloudy. I repeat. All levels are normal and water is clearer. http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=16577193&albumID=2221200&imageID=53139102

The question was what do you think about my project?

Running two Magnum 350 filters Had to add another one.
I have about 10 Pseudotropheus(there are some babies hidden in there somewhere)
6 Tiger barbs
2 Jewel Fish
1 Pleco
Tank is 72gal
Sand Substrate
Overall project price $80 for the bowfront tank(new from craigslist) $10 shop light $5 playsand $30 aquarium bulbs($15x2bulbs). The cement was free since my friend had some laying around. $5 cement color $7 for silicone, $10 styrofoam. Used 2nd filter $50(craigslist) Do the math
The fish are there…there are just too many hiding spots for them…that was the purpose of the custom background. They are African cichlids so they needed that.

When criticizing be honest about it…thanx for that rock comment…i’ll keep that in mind

How do I get the water in my goldfish aquarium tank to look clear?

I have 4 large goldfish. I’ve changed tanks, I’ve changed the water, tried chemicals/tried no chemicals, checked the water quality, checked the temperature, cleaned everything in the tank…and still, the water looks “cloudy” a day or two after I change it. It looks almost like diluted skim milk until I change it again….no matter what I do! Help!

where can I find information on the different species of aquarium fish?

I’m looking for info on Beta’s

Sick goldfish. What should I do?

I have a sick calico ryukin goldfish & I’ve only had him for less than a year. It’s like he doesn’t know how to swim anymore. I found him with an anchor worm several weeks ago & I carefully removed it with tweezers. He was fine afterwards. But now he sinks to the bottom of the aquarium & doesn’t swim well. So I put him on a breeder box to separate him from the healthy goldfishes. I tried feeding him green beans (chopped) & it didn’t work.. [for a while I thought he had a swim bladder disease]. He’s eating well though. Its just that he finds it so hard to swim now & he needs to exert a lot of effort to swim.

*My aquarium is a 10 gallon goldfish tank from the starter kit. I have the Top fin 10 gallon filter. I have several fake colorful plants. For aeration, I have a sunken treasure barrel with a bubbler connected to an air pump. I gravel vacuum at least once a week to keep the gravel & tank clean. I also have a thermometer to monitor the water temperature. I feed them at least 3 times a day.. no more than what they can eat for a few minutes.

Any tricks to get the background to look good on an aquarium?

My background is a solid black one. I used soapy water and a squeegee to apply it, holding the edges to the tank with double sided tape. It looked good for a few days, now there’s all kinds of bubbles behind the glass and it looks awful. Before I did the soapy water thing, it was just held in place with the double sided tape, and still had lots of air behind it, looking really bad. I thought I hit on something with the soapy water and squeegee, but now it’s back to being bad.

I know there is a product called seaview gel, Dr Foster & Smith sells it. But I don’t want to pay $10 just for shipping a $6 item. I can’t seem to find it locally.

Any tricks you can share? Thanks!
I guess because it is solid black, the bubbles are more noticeable. I’ve tried using just tape. It doesn’t work, the air still shows. The background needs to be adheared somehow to the whold glass back so that no air gets back there at all…
Vaseline huh? That actually sounds like it might work!
