200g Marineland Deep Dimension Reef Tank
Here is my first video of my 200g Marineland Deep Dimension Starphire. Lighting: 2x400w 20k Radiums Powered by PFO Ballast and in Lumenmax Reflectors. Filtration: 100g Sump w/Deep Sand Bed, AquaC EV-1000 Skimmer, Filter Socks, 40w UV sterilizer w/wiper. Flow: Reeflo Barracuda as return pump feeding 200g (1500GPH) and 72 bowfront (500GPH), which is now frag tank. Barracuda also feeds the skimmer. Circulation in tank is done with 1x Koralia Magnum 8 pump at 3250 GPH, and 2 Seaswirls on the return from the sump. Other: Aquacontroller Jr controlling temp, fans, and lights. Fish: Chevron Tang, Purple Tang, Red Sea Sailfin Tang, Blue Eye Kole Tang, Blond Naso Tang, Regal Tang, Scribbled Rabbitfish, Misbar Clown, Mandarin Dragonet, Lawnmower Blenny, Sixline Wrasse…I think thats it???

hi thank you! about odyssea i have no idea because i customize my light and so far its working ok. and yeah untill now i dont know also what is best all i know is that most of the equipments are very expensive and one mistake will really mess things up. im in singapore now looking for some useful stuffs here that i can buy hopefully.
i decided to add phoenix 14k bulbs, but the ballast wouldn’t fire them. so i replaced the ballast with a galaxy ballast. then i was worried about the wiring so I replaced that. basically i just have the odyssea housing. i would probably just look into a retro fit or something. odyssea is ok, but not great. i would rather buy a quality used fixture than the new odyssea.
checked it out. looking good.
how did that odyssea mh light work out for you? thinking of getting one but i hear odyssea ballast are fire hazards
hello hi, i have posted a video of my tank, check it out thanks.
Isn’t sodium bicarbonate known as baking soda? If so it will lower pH, and if you bake it in the oven before adding it will have no affect on pH. It is supposed to increase alkalinity (dKH). If your demand is low/moderate and you have a low pH I would use kalkwasser to maintain calcium/alkalinity, and keep pH up. In that situation it may be better than a calcium reactor.
yes thanks, hi did you ever tried to use adding sodium bicarbonate to increase the PH? or will it kill all the fish and corals? i notice in the daytime to night till i open my A/C the temp is aroun 27-28-29.8C, and during the night and morning 30C going to 27C ’till i close my a/c again. will Sodium Bicarbonate fix it even my temp goes low? now im at 7.7 PH.
there are lots of plans out there but i dont really know what the best is. all i know that is if you can, add 2 chambers, both will be filled with media, but the first will do most of the work. the second is more for CO2 degassing.
hi do you have any idea or video info on how to make (DIY) for calcium reactor? i was thinking of adding one but i want to try and just make it to save money. thank you
and also what do you use or do to make your PH stable? i can’t make it stable in 8.10-8.30 it goes down almost every other day or 3 days. im using a digital PH monitor that is in the tank all the time and i’m using a marinium PH plus for additives when my PH goes down @ 7 point something.
ok got it! can i put any kind of sand i want like white fine sand for a sand eel? and one more thing diatom on the main tank was eaten by my cleaners but how do i remove the diatom over my sump tank? do i have to scrub them out or move my cleaners to the sump tank?
you can add sand. just make sure you clean it really well with fresh water. rinse it probably 20x before adding, then add slowly. I would take a bowl full of it, and slowly lower it into the tank. when the bowl is at the bottom of the tank slowly tip it over and pour the sand out. try not to cloud the water too much. Maybe do this over several days depending on how much sand you want to add.
hi i had almost everything going ok now, for only one mistake or should i say i really choose to go for a none sand bed tank set up… but i was just wondering,is it ok to add live sand or crash corals as gravel even the tank is already full operational?
actually the floating things work pretty well. i haven’t used one, but they are said to be pretty accurate. refractometers are the most accurate, but stability is more important than the number, as long as you are in the “safe” range. 1.024-1.026 for reef tanks is generally suggested. I will upload a video soon.
when i started the new tank, i don’t have the proper salinity instrument, instead i only use a thing that floats in water, guess it didn’t really give accurate results. i’m going to make a short video and upload it here, pls check it out and let me know and give me some suggestion. and anyway i cant wait till you make a new video.
yes, you can mix high salinity water and top off with it. just as you said, 1.030 would be great, just top off over the next couple days and keep checking it. when you get the salinity you want start using regular water again. how did it get so low? getting that low can cause some serious problems with coral if you aren’t careful.
hi mate im back, how can i adjust the salinty of my tank? i think its getting low it reads in between 1.019 and 1.020… im thinking of adding 2 gallon of water with 1.030 gravity coz my tank usually lose a lot of water when it evaporates. what do you think i must do to increase the salinity and what do i do when i water evaporates. thanks by the way i cant add salt directly into tank coz i already add my corals and fish etc…
I doubt your fish died due to not having a filter running, unless they weren’t able to get enough oxygen. What is your ammonia and nitrates? I run 20k bulbs without supplement and like it, but if you think you need more blue, get 2 VHO or 2 T5.
nice thanks! do you think 1 VHO t5 actinic is already enough for i have already a 150 MH 20,000K and it is producing blue light.1 stripe damsel,2 of small clown fish and 2 pacific cleaner shrimp died today w/c i just bought few days ago, coz i forget to plug in my filter after feeding such a very stupid thing and lesson to me,felt so bad and i dont want it to happen again, well atleast all my corals are safe and my 2 hermit crabs.
I would skip the PC actinics, they aren’t very powerful and the MH will just wash out their light. I have 4xPC on my 72g bowfront and when I turn them on with MH running you cant even tell they are running. Use T5 or VHO actinics if you want supplementation. You dont need fish, but a couple will help feed the coral, by producing waste…which in small amounts the corals eat. A large tank is really nice, Im sure you would enjoy it, but cost is MUCH higher. The video will update around Christmas.
i’m thinking of octopus skimmer and add 2 more 65W PC actinics with my 150W 20K MH on my 50g. is it ok if i dont want to add any fish on my new tank? how often do you think i have to check my ammonia etc? as for your suggestion b4 to get 75g yes im thinking of going to have atleast 150g or 200g when i move next year to my new town house her in bangkok. so i better practice learn a lot more. how was the feeling having a 200g? ; ) when are you going to update video again?
no you dont. i am not a fan of canister filters at all because they trap detritus (poop) and then it breaks down in the tank. the best way to filter mechanically is to use filter socks on your drain, and you have to change them often to keep debris from breaking down into ammonia and nitrates. i change mine daily, and many do it every 2-3 days. what kind of skimmer are you looking at?
yes kinda sleeping late at night just to read so much forums and watch my tank lol, but listening to someone who’s experienced is a bit closer to goal i think. I’m getting a protien skimmer and UV sterilizer this week. do i still need a canister filter if i already have a sump?
if it stays at 75-82 year round you are fine. if it falls out of that range, or changes too fast you will have some major issues. but…you can also have major issues if a heater fails. if you can keep it in that range without a heater, do so.
well your 4x t5 will do fine. you will need a skimmer, as i said before the AquaC EV skimmers are my favorite, as well as the Octopus Extreme Skimmers (with the sicce pumps).
